Male teacher gets dress-coded for wearing a t-shirt despite half the staff wearing t-shirts daily: 'Our school is near being an F school, half of our staff are not certified, but my shirt is the problem'
Your outfit can tell a lot about the job you do. That's why I don't understand why we insist that teachers, the profession that interacts with children more than any other, mustn't wear informal clothing ever. I understand the idea that if kids are going to respect their teachers, they need to dress professionally. If a teacher is dressed more like their teenage sibling than their mom, a young kid might get the wrong idea about how much consideration this adult should get. But we live in a society that's getting less and less formal. Why should we complicate one of the most difficult jobs in the world by making them adhere to an antiquated and strict dress code? One male teacher recently went viral on r/Teachers for sharing his dress code woes. He wore a mental health awareness t-shirt, and despite many of his colleagues wearing t-shirts regularly, he got reprimanded for it.
