‘I’ll never buy as much as lipgloss,’ vows Walmart shopper on security for $7 item – she’s boycotting ‘horrific’ policy
A WALMART shopper has said they will never go back after getting fed up with the store’s latest antitheft policies.
Shoppers have been complaining about the increasing number of antitheft measures popping up at retailers nationwide for years.

Walmart customers online often take issue with the company’s self-checkout kiosks, which many have said make them feel like store employees or even thieves if they make a mistake while scanning.
Other shoppers have been upset by Walmart’s receipt-checking policies, which can slow down the exiting process and again make some customers feel like they are being treated like criminals.
An even newer problem has begun turning some Walmart shoppers away from the store permanently — locked merchandise.
More and more retailers have begun locking up even low-cost items within glass or plastic cages to prevent shoplifting.
And for one former Walmart fan, the added hassle has become just too much.
On Saturday, Carson Krow (@carsonkrow) shared her frustration in a post on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
“I went to Walmart today because it’s a block from my house and I needed to grab a makeup brush because I lost one of mine,” she began.
The shopper listed the many reasons she no longer wanted to head to Walmart.
“Everything on the makeup aisles is locked up,” she said.
Other customers have reported finding skincare products and cosmetics locked behind glass at Walmart in the past.
“If they think I’m gonna stand there and wait for one of their horrible employees to unlock a $7 item because their theft policies suck — then they’re crazy,” she said.
Krow gave no reason for characterizing store employees as “horrible.”
The shopper said the experience was the last straw for her.
“I’ll never buy so much as a lipgloss from there now. Horrific retail strategy,” she said.
MORE SHOPPERS SAYING GOODBYE
Krow’s post resonated with many people, receiving hundreds of comments and over 1,500 likes.
Stores that lock their shelves
Retailers have started to lock shelves to combat rising theft.
Walmart
Target
Walgreens
CVS
Duane Reade
Rite Aid
Dollar Tree
The Home Depot
Sephora
Many people agreed with Krow’s frustration and linked shoppers’ experiences to store location and politics.
“Same here. The cheap nail polish is locked up but the spendy stuff isn’t. WTH???” one person commiserated.
“And it’s nearly 100% self-checkout… employees standing around watching the customers do their job. Clearly not the Sam Walton model that made Walmart great,” another replied.
“Thanks to those thieves, we all pay the price,” a third lamented.
“They’re forcing us to shop at Amazon!!” another suggested.
