“I’m sure you are feeling embarrassed now”: Eiichiro Oda Did Not Retaliate After Tite Kubo Said He Hates Him Instead Won Hearts With a Kind Response
A healthy rivalry between manga creators is not a new thing. Especially when you are the creators of two of the Big Three. There was a time, not so long ago, when Tite Kubo and Eiichiro Oda, the biggest mangakas in the industry, were competing for the top spot. Their rivalry led to the succession of their works, Bleach and One Piece, which became industry giants.

However, this healthy rivalry may not have been good for Kubo, as the manga creator once confessed that he developed feelings of jealousy towards Oda because his One Piece manga always stood one step ahead of Bleach. He even went on to say that he hated the mangaka because of this.
But Oda, being the kind soul he is, gave the perfect response to Kubo’s comment and won the hearts of everyone. The manga creator not only confessed that he doesn’t hate Kubo for saying this but also invited him for drinks and congratulated Kubo on the 20th anniversary of Bleach.
Eiichiro Oda’s Response to Tite Kubo’s Jealousy
In 2017, Tite Kubo jokingly confessed that he was jealous of Oda because his editors used to ask him to make Bleach more like One Piece. This is why he started hating the manga creator. However, a few years later, while congratulating Bleach for its 20th anniversary, Oda wrote a letter to Kubo, which was shared by @sandman_AP on X (Formerly Twitter).

In the letter, Oda stated:
Years ago, Kubo publicly announced on the radio, “I hate Oda.” You wanna know if I have a grudge against Kubo? Yeah, I do!! That said, his whole statement didn’t sound particularly rude to me. Actually, I don’t dislike Kubo considering his audacity to have made such a public statement. lol.

Oda revealed that he did not find Kubo’s comment rude in any way; instead, he was impressed by Kubo’s audacity to have made such a public comment. Oda understood the humor behind Kubo’s statement and replied to it with kindness and positive affirmations.

The One Piece mangaka stated:
I remember Kubo’s debut manga since we are around the same age. I felt, “Wow, this new mangaka has good drawing skill. His idea is good as well. His drawings eloquently tell us he is a pretty confident guy.”
Congratulating him on the 20th anniversary of his magnum opus, Oda wrote:
Now that he mentioned me that way, I announce here with 100% confidence that someone like Kubo is a competitive super-hard worker. I’m sure you are feeling embarrassed now, Tito Kubo. lol You are a man of hard work! Congrats for the Bleach 20th anniversary! Let’s go for a drink together in the near future.
Oda rarely had any kind of controversies with other manga creators, and whenever something like this happened, the creator always responded with kindness and positivity.
