Alabama commit is ready to visit Ohio State for the first time
Montgomery (Ala.) Carver four-star running back Anthony Rogers has been committed to Alabama since June 2. His pledge to the Crimson Tide is “pretty strong,” but he is still evaluating other college football programs.
One of them is Ohio State, who offered Rogers this spring. The 5-foot-8, 185-pound running back is planning to make his first visit to Columbus next week and is excited to learn more about the Buckeyes.
“I plan to get up there Sunday (May 26), spend a few days around Ohio State and see how it is,” Rogers told On3. “They have a good running back history. They have some of the top backs in the country in their program right now. I also like coach Carlos Locklyn. Me and him have had a great relationship since I was in eighth grade.”
Rogers plans to pay close attention to how he can fit in Ohio State’s scheme during his trip, as well as the coaches’ relationship with the players. The No. 9 player in Alabama also wants to see how comfortable he feels on the Buckeyes’ campus.
Locklyn is a key reason for Rogers’ interest in the Big Ten program. He joined Ohio State this offseason after serving in the same role at Oregon.
“He’s a great, down-to-earth man,” said Rogers, the No. 108 overall prospect and No. 7 running back in the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking. “He’s a man of God. He keeps it straightforward and he does a great job with running backs.”
Rogers is still locked in with Alabama despite interest from Ohio State
Ohio State is not the only school working to flip Rogers from Alabama. He is also looking closely at Auburn and Georgia.
The four-star is planning to take official visits to Alabama, Auburn and Georgia during the season, along with Ohio State, depending on how his trip this month goes. Yet he is still locked in with Alabama.
“I feel good with Alabama,” Rogers said. “Coach Robert Gillespie and I have been tight since I was in eighth grade. I like Alabama’s direction as well.”
The main reason Rogers is still pledged to the Crimson Tide is Gillespie, Alabama’s running backs coach and assistant head coach. He chose the SEC program when Nick Saban was head coach, but is confident in where Alabama is going under Kalen DeBoer.
“There is somewhat of a different feeling there because there is a completely different staff now,” said Rogers, who has visited the Crimson Tide between two and three times since DeBoer succeeded Saban. “But football-wise, everything seems to be the same.”
Auburn and Georgia are also on Rogers’ radar
Before finalizing his college destination, Rogers wants to evaluate all of his options. That is why he is considering Auburn, Georgia and Ohio State while still remaining committed to Alabama.
Rogers last visited the Tigers two months ago. Auburn was one of the first schools to offer him.
“I like their coaches,” Rogers said. “They talk about how I can fit well in their scheme and possibly get on the field early. That’s what I like about Auburn.”
“I like the vibe there,” he added. “I know I could go in there, work and possibly get early playing time.”
Georgia is also working hard to land Rogers. Running backs coach Josh Crawford is his main contact with the Bulldogs.
“Coach Crawford has been recruiting me pretty hard,” Rogers said. “They said that they like how I play, I could fit well in their scheme and I could get to the league if I go to Georgia.”
