Miami Recruiting: 2025 commit breakdown
After logging a top-five recruiting class last cycle, Miami is once again on the hunt to compile another elite pledge list.
Thus far, Mario Cristobal and the staff in Coral Gables have laid the foundation for one of the top classes in its conference. As of Sept. 25, the Hurricanes’ class ranks No. 12 in the nation and No. 1 in the ACC, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
Headlined by elite in-state talent, the Canes’ class now features 21 total commitments.
Miami Class Breakdown
Four of the five highest-ranked commitments in the class joined in July. Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy four-star linebacker Gavin Nix pledged on July 1 and was followed by Jacksonville Mandarin four-star safety Hylton Stubbs three days later. Nix is the No. 15 LB in the cycle, while Stubbs is the No. 53 overall recruit and No. 4 SAF in the nation.
Las Vegas Bishop Gorman four-star IOL SJ Alofaituli and New Iberia (La.) Westgate four-star cornerback Jaboree Antoine are each top-100 recruits. Antoine is a former LSU pledge and one of the newest members of the class.
Miami Christopher Columbus four-star safety Bryce Fitzgerald joined in the middle of August and is now a top-125 recruit and the No. 14 SAF in the nation.
The Canes added eight commits in June — four of whom are four-stars. Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna four-star cornerback Chris Ewald is the No. 26 corner in the cycle. Miami Central four-star safety Amari Wallace, Sanford (Fla.) Seminole four-star interior offensive lineman Max Buchanan and Savannah (Ga.) Benedictine Military four-star EDGE Herbert Scroggins highlight some of the other newer additions.
Tampa Armwood four-star running back Girard Pringle announced his commitment at the end of March and he also sits near the top of the class as the No. 11 RB in the nation. Leo (Ind.) four-star tight end Brock Schott is a top-200 pledge.
Cincinnati Lakota West four-star TE Luka Gilbert is also in the class as a top-15 player at the position alongside Schott. Alpharetta (Ga.) Milton four-star quarterback Luke Nickel was the first pledge in the 2025 class and he’s now the No. 18 signal-caller in the cycle.
Other commitments include the likes of Miami Central three-star LB Ezekiel Marcelin, Birmingham (Ala.) Parker three-star cornerback Timothy Merritt and Orlando Christian Prep three-star offensive tackle Demetrius Campbell.
Top Offensive Commit: IOL SJ Alofaituli
The 6-foot-0.5, 290-pounder was long trending to the Hurricanes throughout the spring and into the summer. Michigan and Nebraska pushed hard but the Sunshine State program won out on July 5. Alofaituli is the No. 78 overall prospect and No. 5 IOL in the nation.
He spoke with On3’s Steve Wiltfong ahead of his decision:
“The Miami program has some great benefits,” Alofaituli said. “From medical to policies that take good care of me and lets my parents sleep well at night. My personal favorite is academics.”
Top Defensive Commit: Safety Hylton Stubbs
The 6-foot-2, 175-pound Stubbs announced a surprise commitment to USC in March while on a visit in Los Angeles. He eventually backed off that pledge in June and the Canes immediately picked up buzz in his recruitment.
On July 4, he announced his decision, choosing Miami over Florida. He broke down his decision with On3’s Chad Simmons:
“This decision was very tough. Florida, Miami and USC have supported me from the start, but I chose Miami because I believe in coach Mario Cristobal’s leadership and mature staff. I think they will prepare me best for the NFL. Miami’s large market can help build my brand too. The coaching team, including coach Lance Guidry, Chevis Jackson, Jason Taylor, Derek Nicholson, Mike Rumph, and Marc St. Felix, work well together and have strong relationships.”
