Des Plaines Man Gets 1 Year In Prison For Falsified Tax Returns: Feds
CHICAGO — A Des Plaines man has been sentenced to a year in federal prison for falsely overstating in his personal tax returns the amount of business expenses and charitable contributions. According to prosecutors, Nikko D'Ambrosio, 32, made false claims on his personal income tax returns for the years 2019 and 2020. U.S. District Judge Thomas M. Durkin imposed a year-and-a-day sentence during a hearing Wednesday in federal court in Chicago. D'Ambrosio had been convicted by a federal jury on the charges earlier this year. D'Ambrosio was working as a salesperson for an Illinois-based electronic sweepstakes operator at the time the crimes occurred. Authorities said D'Ambrosio falsely claimed to have driven more than 474,000 miles on business-related travel. He also falsely claimed to have incurred more than $263,000 in business-related meal expenses during those years. Financial and vehicle records presented at trial revealed that the mileage and meal expenses were "vastly overstated," according to prosecutors. In addition, D'Ambrosio's made false claims about his charitable contributions involved alleged donations of more than $63,000 to a Catholic church in Chicago. A representative of the church testified at the trial that D’Ambrosio was not a parishioner and that the church had no record of any donations by D’Ambrosio in those years. The article Des Plaines Man Gets 1 Year In Prison For Falsified Tax Returns: Feds appeared first on Arlington Heights, IL Patch.
