Lil Wayne Says Being Snubbed For The Super Bowl Halftime Show ‘Broke Me’: ‘It Hurt A Lot’
Lil Wayne is breaking his silence after being snubbed for the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show.
On Sunday, Sept. 8, it was announced that Kendrick Lamar would be the performer for football’s biggest night. Considering the game is in New Orleans, Lil Wayne’s hometown, many fans criticized the decision, specifically calling out Jay-Z who produces the halftime show.

Many also pointed out the decision appeared to confirm Jay-Z was taking sides in Kendrick Lamar’s ongoing feud with Drake, whose career started on Lil Wayne’s Young Money label.
Now, Lil Wayne is speaking out himself. He hopped on Instagram live and apologized to fans for taking a few days to address the matter and said he had to “get strength” to make a statement “without breaking.” He then thanked fans for their support, adding that their words “held me up.”

Of being snubbed he said,
“That hurt. It hurt a lot. It hurt a whole lot. I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for a let down. For just automatically, mentally putting myself in that position like somebody told me that was my position. I blame myself for that. But I thought that was nothing better than that spot and that stage and that platform in my city. So it hurt, it hurt a whole lot.”

He applauded the love from fans and said,
“Y’all are f*ck*ng amazing. It made me feel like sh*t, not being given this opportunity. And when I felt like sh*t, you guys reminded me that I ain’t sh*t without y’all.”
He said although “it broke me,” he’s now “trying to put be back together.”
“I feel like I let all of y’all down by not being given that opportunity. But I’m working on me.”
