Scream 7 Has a Bigger Problem Than Jenna Ortega Quitting and Melissa Barrera’s Firing That Will Shatter Its Box Office Dreams

The Scream franchise has been under a lot of heat in the past few months. After it allegedly fired Melissa Barrera due to her support for Palestine, a dam broke that became unstoppable. Despite being one of the most iconic and successful slasher films of all time, it lost a majority of its public support. Additionally, it let Jenna Ortega slip through its grasp at the peak of Wednesday’s success.

Since then, audiences have been extremely wary about the seventh installment. Not only due to the controversy but also concerned about where the story is going to go. A recent update seems to have added yet another hurdle for the franchise that could easily wreck it.
The Scream Franchise May Have Made Another Mistake
The last Scream film was released in 2023, being almost as iconic as the first and having audiences hooked and waiting for the next part. While the story ended well, fans cannot help but wonder about the direction the story is going to take now that both the protagonists have walked away from the project. Some have even wondered if this would be a good time for the franchise to stop, considering how long it had gone for.

Recently, Variety gave an update about the franchise, which started by confirming that it will be coming back for a seventh installment. With this update also came an interesting piece of information. They reported that the film is going to have a release date of February 27, 2026, and Neve Campbell will be coming back for her role as Sidney Prescott.

While the fact that Prescott is coming back to the forefront of the story is quite a bold decision, it is the initial part of the announcement that is quite concerning. The fact that the next film will be coming out three years after the previous one was released is a poor decision on its own.

Additionally, taking such a long break after being submerged in controversy simply cannot help the franchise’s reputation, having already lost a decent percentage of its fans due to Melissa Barrera’s firing.
A Scream for Help
As soon as the latest update of Scream 7 hit the internet, audiences were quick to reveal their opinions on the same. Starting off, fans were naturally not happy about how they decided to fire Melissa Barrera, then lost Jenna Ortega, only to continue on as if nothing happened.

Not happy with their outward disregard for the matters of the world, as well as their bold moves, several fans pointed out that they will not be watching the new film, simply out of solidarity for Orgeta and Barrera. Additionally, some fans agreed with the sentiment about the release date.

Pointing out that the franchise has been going on for several decades, many mentioned that the release date is extremely far away from the previous film. Some even joked that they might pass before the movie is released, considering how 2026 is almost two years ahead.
