Rece Davis picks Shedeur Sanders as his top QB in 2025 draft class
The ESPN College GameDay podcast recently debated which quarterback is the best in the 2025 NFL Draft. College GameDay host Rece Davis went with a bit of a surprising pick, tabbing Shedeur Sanders as his top option.
There are a lot of different opinions about the Colorado star, but Davis believes he can be successful at the next level.

Shedeur Sanders is having a really good year and has thrown for 1,630 yards and 14 touchdowns, with three interceptions. He also has a rushing touchdown.
“I think right now I’d take Shedeur Sanders. I think,” Rece Davis said. “There are some things – holds the ball a little bit. You want to make sure that in an NFL locker room that guys will come to him and play for him. But he can move. He can make throws going a lot of different ways. You know, I mean, he can really, really spin it.”

Shedeur Sanders has helped Colorado get off to a 4-1 start to the season, and the Buffaloes have won three straight games.
Sanders has been criticized at times for being critical of his teammates, particularly the Colorado offensive line in a loss to Nebraska earlier this season. However, there’s no doubt he is incredibly talented and can make the throws necessary to be successful in the NFL.
Rece Davis high on Jalen Milroe, in addition to Shedeur Sanders
While Rece Davis selected Shedeur Sanders as his top quarterback for the 2025 NFL Draft for now, he believes Alabama star Jalen Milroe can get into the discussion.
Milroe has helped the Crimson Tide to a 4-0 start and is a big reason why the Crimson Tide are the No. 1 ranked team in the country.
“If you continue to see improvement in the intermediate passing game, it would be Jalen Milroe easily. If. … You’ve gotta have that in the NFL,” Davis said. “You’ve gotta throw with anticipation. You’ve gotta throw guys open. And Kalen DeBoer told me last week that he had made great strides, particularly over the last week-and-a-half.
“I think the ball he threw to Ryan Williams that turned out to be the game-winner is an example of that. He threw it to the back shoulder. Ryan went and got it. He gave him a chance to get it. He trusted that it could work that way. He’s got a huge arm. He’s crazy fast. And he is a mountain of a man – all of the things that you would want in an NFL quarterback.”
With that said, there are areas Milroe still must improve to be a really good quarterback at the next level.
“An NFL quarterback has to be able to play on time, has to be able to throw with anticipation, has to be able to throw to guys open. So there needs to be improvement there,” Davis said. “But I think the highest ceiling of any of those guys that you mentioned is Jalen Milroe and it’s pretty easy in that regard. But you need to see a little bit more before you would go QB1 there, I think.”
