Hollyoaks ‘confirms’ light at the end of the tunnel for Lucas Hay and Dillon Ray – in major scenes

Lucas Hay’s (Oscar Curtis) fears are quelled in Hollyoaks next week by the one person who always has his back in Dillon Ray (Nathaniel Dass), as the connection between the two boys continues to grow.
It’s been a turbulent year for Lucas, who struggled to come to terms with the fact that he’s gay, having developed feelings for best mate and confidante Dillon, who has been by his side every step of the way.
Matters were complicated by head teacher Carter Shepherd (David Ames), who preyed on his confusion, manipulating him into thinking that there was something wrong with him as he practised conversion therapy on the unsuspecting school boy.
Dillon long thought that there was something awry in Carter’s interest in Lucas and therefore he made it his mission to find out what was going on. Lucas, however, was tasked by Carter to ‘remove temptation’ and therefore he deliberately alienated his friend with cruel comments.
The storyline in question reached a peak last week, with Carter finally apprehended at Pride after he attempted to kidnap Lucas, who found himself so confused over the headteacher’s twisted teachings that he lashed out at Dillon, who confessed his love for him.
Filled with hatred over what he did, Lucas subsequently self-harmed and told unconscious Dillon that he loved him too.

The two boys were rushed to hospital, with Ste (Kieron Richardson) appalled to learn of his son’s ordeal at the hands of Carter, sharing a heart-to-heart with Lucas, encouraging him to be honest with himself about who is.
In powerful scenes, Lucas came out.
Dillon, meanwhile, resolved to keep shtum about Lucas’ role in his attack, believing that he’s been through enough. Lucas, however, made it his mission to make things right with Dillon, calling at 67 Christledon Terrace to apologise for what he did.

Dillon was incredibly kind, forgiving him instantly and, feeling comfortable in his presence, Lucas came out to him. It was an emotional moment, with the two boys taking each other’s hands, clearly still head over heels for one another.
But while Lucas has rejected Carter and Declan Hawthorne’s (Alan Turkington) sinister teachings, his ordeal isn’t quite over yet, with next week proving somewhat triggering for him when he returns to school.

After some encouragement from his loved ones, the teen agrees to sit his exams on school grounds but a question about religion on the paper triggers bad memories of what he went through, causing him to panic.
Everyone is left concerned but, as confirmed in the accompanying pictures, it’s Dillon who resolves to get through to Lucas, with the two boys sharing a heart-to-heart and, soon enough, the smile is back on Lucas’ face.

Of course it’s Dillon that comes to his aid. It’s always Dillon.
‘Dillon is the only character Lucas can ever be himself with – where everything makes sense,’ actor Oscar Curtis exclusively told me earlier in the year. ‘What I think is beautiful about the relationship is the contrast between the characters.

Oscar, as you might recall, also teased that Dillon would be the light at the end of the tunnel for Lucas, after his ordeal came to an end.
‘Lucas is going to go through a lot of lows and dark points but when he gets outside of that tunnel, Dillon is going to be at the end.’
Judging from the events of next week, it seems that the end of the tunnel is upon us – but will Lucas and Dillon finally get their happy ending?
