NHL fans spot incredible ‘game-changing’ AI tech used for arena coverage – and predict ‘hologram’ move
DALLAS Stars fans don’t have to head all the way to Canada to enjoy the away-game experience.
The Stars and Edmonton Oilers have been battling it out in the NHL‘s Western Conference Finals for a shot at the Stanley Cup.

The two teams faced off on Wednesday at Rogers Place in Game 4, but looking to ensure that some of those unable to travel could still enjoy an arena experience, the Stars showed off some impressive tech.
Thousands of fans packed into American Airlines Center to watch as the game was projected onto the rink.
Dots represented each player with their jersey numbers within and an arrow showing which direction they were moving in.
The puck could also be seen leaving a trail whenever hit, with the game being shown simultaneously on the jumbotron above.
“This comes from our puck- and player-tracking technology, known as NHL EDGE, which uses infrared technology and various cameras to track exact puck and player positions!” according to SMT.
Clips of the event later went viral on X, formerly known as Twitter, where fans flocked to comment on the potentially game-changing tech.
“Only a matter of time until they start using holograms projected onto the ice,” one fan suggested.
“Slap some NES Hockey graphics and we got a show,” joked a second.
“That’s seriously cool!” added another.
While a fourth brutally replied, “Watching that AI score 5 times on your goal with no one on the ice had to be devastating.”
As alluded to above, it wound up being a night to forget for the Stars.
A 5-2 loss left the series tied at 2-2 heading into Game 5 on Friday back in Dallas.
Despite the loss, Stars head coach Peter DeBoer remained optimistic as they looked ahead to another home game.
“We came here and got a split, got home ice back,” he said after Game 4.
“Got two out of three to go to the Stanley Cup Final. This isn’t supposed to be easy and it’s not supposed to be pretty.

“As much preparation as we can do to manage momentum swings and things like that.
“You’ve got the four best teams in the league left, that’s what it’s going to look like and you’ve got to find out a way to come out on top.
“If it takes seven games in overtime it takes seven games in overtime.”
