Class of 2025 cornerback Dante Core is visiting Auburn on Saturday.
Core, who is from Fort Walton Beach, Fla., arrived on campus Saturday morning for an unofficial visit. It is his second unofficial visit to Auburn this year. He previously visited in April.
Core nearly committed after his first visit to Auburn, but decided to wait.
“It was a family decision (to wait),” he said. “I wanted everybody to be on board with my decision. Everyone didn’t feel like they were ready. Not all of my family came with me on my visit. My mom, brothers and sisters came, but not everybody.”
Despite postponing a commitment, Core said he remains high on Auburn.
“Most definitely they are high on my list,” he said. “I don’t really have any schools ranked, but they are definitely high up there.”
Core has close bond with Auburn coaches
A big reason why is the coaching staff. Core has developed strong bond with Auburn cornerbacks coach Wesley “Crime Dog” McGriff, as well as with safeties coach/co-defensive coordinator Charles Kelly.
“They are great guys and, most importantly, they are great coaches as well,” he said. “They have a great program and a great developmental system. That really stands out to me.
“I love Coach Crime. He’s an amazing guy. He’s high energy and a great coach. I love him.”
McGriff and Kelly both made an evaluation visit to Fort Walton on Sunday to see Core.
“Coach Crime came and watched me in the weight room,” Core said. “He watched me work out. Then they both came and saw me practice. It was great. It felt great that they took the time to come out and see me, spend some time on me. It was pretty cool.”
Core plans to be back in Auburn for an official visit in June. He’s set to return June 14-16. He also has an official visit scheduled to Rutgers for the weekend of May 31. An official visit to Ole Miss also is in the plans, as well as one to LSU.
As for a new decision timeframe, Core is eyeing the end of the summer.
“After my OVs this summer,” he said.
