The weekly rundown: Penn State board set to vote on Beaver Stadium plan Tuesday
The Weekly Rundown, our early-in-the-week column that focuses on all sorts of Penn State and college athletics news and information, is back!
Sure bets
The Penn State Board of Trustee members will vote on the Beaver Stadium renovation plan Tuesday. The approximately $700 million project is set to be put into place officially tomorrow morning. After a private executive session, the Board and its committee on finance, business, and capital planning will meet to approve funding for the work, which will primarily happen on the west side of the stadium and start after the 2024 season. Work will last until 2027. The vote will not be unanimous. But, the plan is expected to be approved.Nick Lee is a perfect fit for Cael Sanderson’s staff. An ultra competitive multi-time NCAA champ, Lee was hired to replace Jimmy Kennedy on the Penn State wrestling staff Monday. It is his first coaching gig. Lee, who competed at 141 pounds in college and 143.3 pounds at the freestyle level will primarily work with the 125-157 pound wrestlers in State College.Kick times are coming May 30. While we did not see any Penn State games included in last week’s round of announcements by college football television partners, we’ll get some, probably the first three weeks worth of games, on May 30. That’s when a slew of contests’ start times and TV assignments will be unveiled.
The jury is out on these Penn State topics
Can Penn State hang on to Alvin Henderson? The four-star running back, Alabama native, and Nittany Lion commit visited Auburn over the weekend. It is not a shock that the Class of 2025 talent took a trip to see the Tigers. And, it’s another reminder of how hard Ja’Juan Seider and co., will have to work to get Hendersin’s signature in December. Will the House vs. NCAA case start the settlement process this week? It’s possible that it does. Penn State and its college peers would not be on the hook for any money related to it just yet. But, it would start the timeline for that to happen. You can read more about the case, and how it could change college athletics, here. Could Lions commit Bekkem Kritza still earn an Elite 11 invite? He did not earn one after Sunday’s last stop of the Elite 11 regional tour in State College. He could earn one once the staff of the annual event finishes its final evaluations, however. Time will tell. We’d call it unlikely but a possibility.
This Nittany Lion topic has our attention
Penn State baseball is going to the Big Ten tournament. It’s the program’s first trip to the conference event in years. The eight seed, the Nittany Lions open play in Omaha opposite No. 1 Illinois at 7 p.m. ET Tuesday. Big Ten Network will televise the game. Penn State will then play again on Thursday. It is a double-elimination tournament.
