Crazy Summer House Rules Viewers Might Not Have Noticed

Now, I’ve watched Summer House since it was conceived in 2017. The premise spoke to me since it was a bunch of friends rent-sharing a summer spot together. Between making memories, drinking, and the drama, this was a show I could clearly get behind. But after being engrossed for eight seasons, there are a few interesting tidbits that have gone unnoticed. Particularly when it comes to some of the house’s unspoken rules.
No Glam

After watching years and years of the Real Housewives franchise, I have become numb to the fact that the women often hire personal glam squads. These teams come complete with a makeup artist, tanner, and hairstylist. The purpose is to make sure that the woman in question is looking good at all times. Who could forget Lisa Barlow’s confession that she has her team on a retainer? The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City housewife revealed she spends $60,000 a year on making sure she is looking her best.
However, this rule doesn’t apply to the cast of Summer House, who are often caught doing their own glam. One of the highlights of each episode is watching the girls commune in one bathroom. There, they apply their faces and talk about boys. Most of the time, it’s just Paige DeSorbo, Ciara Millier, and Lindsay Hubbard huddled around their products, YouTubing how to do the perfect cat-eye or nose contour.
Bathrooms are safe

Like most other Bravo shows the only room in the house that is without prying eyes is the bathroom. So it makes sense that most of the cast turn to the porcelain god as the place to have an intimate moment. Paige confirmed this while speaking on The Skinny Confidential, saying, “If you’re in the bathroom with another person, cameras can come in, but there’s no surveillance in the bathroom. It’s very Real World.” Honestly, it makes sense- I wouldn’t want viewers tracking my bowel movements.
As Paige pointed out if the cast member is willing to have a conversation while in the bathroom the cameras are more than welcome. But producers won’t just barge in while they are going number one or two. The cast is pretty good at not taking advantage of this rule. And often make sure to include the film crew when they can.
Where are hookups allowed?

When it comes to Summer House, we have seen couples hook up in their bedrooms, the pantry, the laundry, and pretty much anywhere else you could think of. But there is one No Go Zone that is absolutely one hundred percent off-limits. And it’s the pool. Not only is it a health and safety concern. But not having sex in the pool is a sign of respect. The crew has been utilizing the house a lot more this summer, and no one wants to jump into the water with extra swimmers. Also, the owners of the mini-mansion wouldn’t approve of the move.
Restaurant Etiquette

Every so often, the Summer House gang enjoys a night out on the town. Complete with a five-star dining experience either in the Hamptons or Montauk. It is usually a 50/50 chance whether the night is a success or not. But the main goal of producers is not to bother the other paying guests. Kyle Cooke has had more than one meltdown while at the dinner table, but fellow diners don’t seem to mind that much. But the general rule is for the cast to keep the drama at a minimum. And wait until they are back at the house.
Bravo calls the shots

During the same podcast, Paige shared that there is professional lighting all over the Summer House ceiling. It seems Bravo takes the job of luminosity very seriously. Paige went on to say, “There’s lights all over the ceiling” and cameras in every “corner.” Paige also shared that the crew is urged to sign contracts. The fashionista revealed that two others before her dropped out. And she was told if she wanted to job she would need to sign on the dotted line that very day. Nothing like a quick decision!
Perhaps one of the oddest things I never noticed was that the vacation washing machine never gets a vacation. I forget that many who live in New York City don’t have access to in-house machines. So it now makes sense why Luke Gulbranson was always saving up his dirty clothes. But if you are willing to put up with these demands, you could maybe survive a weekend at the Summer House.
