Collierville Celebrates Grand Opening of New Pickleball Courts at Suggs Park
According to town officials, Collierville just got a little more spirited with the addition of brand-spanking-new pickleball courts in Suggs Park. Kicking off with a bash on Thursday, the grand opening saw the traditional ribbon-cutting, a warm-up speech from Mayor Stan Joyner, and the local bigwigs, including Vice Mayor Maureen Fraser and Town Administrator Molly Mehner, showing off their paddle prowess in a friendly inaugural match.
Located at 163 East South Street, the courts have opened their gates to the public, revealing six well-lit playgrounds for pickleball aficionados. The opening event not only featured the town's Board of Mayor and Aldermen but also drew over a hundred enthusiasts, many of whom had been honing their skills in the Parks Department’s senior lessons and indoor play programs, according to a statement on the Town of Collierville's official website.
While the town's aldermen made a splash with their friendly matches, local company Statera Paddle supplied the required gear, gaining a spotlight for their home-grown pickleball paddles. Aldermen Billy Patton, John Worley, and town leadership were seen enjoying the game alongside residents, but notably, Alderman John Stamps was missing in action and reportedly out of town.
For those looking to join in on the action, the pickleball courts operate on a first-come, first-serve basis every day from the early hours of 7 a.m. to 9 pm.
