He Divorced His Wife For Cheating, But Now She’s About To Be Homeless, And Their Daughter Wants Him To Help
Two years ago, this 45-year-old man ended things with his 45-year-old wife, Thelma, after being married for 20 years.
He knows he is far from a perfect person, but he did his best to be a great dad and husband. He also completed most of their housework while holding down a job that required 40 to 50 hours from him weekly.
“I tried to be attentive and caring, never forgetting anniversaries, birthdays, and so on,” he explained.
“I did let my body go a bit as the years went by, and I admit that I am not the most exciting guy in the world.”
“Still, I listened to my wife and did what I thought she wanted/needed to keep our marriage happy. Thelma seemed happy with me and bragged to her friends, saying I was a good husband.”
He thinks Thelma is nothing but a liar, as she cheated on him with a 30-year-old guy she met through her job.
As soon as he found out about Thelma’s infidelity, he swiftly filed for divorce and stayed calm so their 18-year-old daughter Lily wouldn’t have to suffer amid the separation.
Thelma was furious with him for not fighting for her, but ultimately, she was harmonious regarding the divorce.
The divorce happened fast, leaving Thelma with 75% of the money they saved, along with her car. He got their house, 25% of their money, an old truck, and took on all of their debt.

They split custody of their daughter Lily equally, but Lily chose to remain living with him. Thelma quickly got an apartment with Larry, the guy he cheated on her with.
“Since then, I have lost the extra weight I put on (30lbs) and have dated some,” he said. “Nothing serious, as I have no desire to ever marry again. Once bitten, twice shy, and all that.”
Yesterday evening, Lily called him to say that Thelma landed in the Emergency Room this week. Apparently, Larry showed Thelma his dark side and seriously injured her. The hospital kept Thelma for a night and pushed for Larry to be charged despite Thelma not requesting this.
Thelma’s apartment is in Larry’s name, and she can’t return there, so she’s been renting a cheap hotel room.
Given that Thelma has no money to her name due to her sending habits post-divorce, she’s about to be homeless, as she can no longer afford the hotel.
Thelma doesn’t have friends or family who can pitch in to help her – her dad is deceased, and her mom is in assisted living. Her sister is 600 miles away from them, and Thelma has to stay in the area because of her job.
As for Lily, she’s living in a college dorm room, so Thelma is not able to move in with her. Lily asked if he could allow Thelma to stay with him until she gets on her feet, as she has nowhere else to go.
“I am not so cold-hearted as to enjoy Thelma’s situation,” he added. “I am closer to apathy, to be honest.”
“Part of me wants to simply shrug and say, “Not my monkey, not my circus.” Still, I know how bad Lily would hurt to see her mother suffering and on the street.”
He has discussed Thelma being on the brink of homelessness with his family members and friends, and it’s a mixed bag.
Some of his loved ones think that because he has space for Thelma, he should allow her to stay with him, while others suggest that he find an apartment for her and pay for a deposit and one month of rent.
Then, he has loved ones who believed that he should let Thelma figure it out on her own, given what she did to him.
“Thelma may have cheated, but she is a good mother,” he continued. “Thelma is not a narc or evil person.”
“She is a human [who] did something selfish and stupid. I have forgiven her but have not forgotten. There is ZERO chance that I end up back with Thelma. That ship sailed, ran into an iceberg, burst into flames, and was then attacked by a mechanical megalodon before it sank.”
Do you think he should help Thelma?
