However, not many fans were thrilled by the decision after she backed her That 70’s Show co-star Danny Masterson during his rape trial.
‘THIS IS NOT GOOD’
On X, formerly Twitter, fans slammed the casting choice and didn’t hold back their strong opinions.
One fan said, “Uhhhhhh …. that’s not good.
“Especially after what evil behavior that she and her scummy husband tried to do last year.”
“Boo I won’t be watching then,” exclaimed a second.
A third said, “I’m still not watching anything with her after her defense of a rapist, no thanks forever!”
“Eeew, after what happened with the Danny Masterson thing…Did we just forget what her and her hubby did,” someone else asked.
“Where do I have to write my letter for her not to be cast?” a fifth questioned.
DANNY’S TRIAL
In June 2020, the former actor was charged with sexually assaulting three women between 2001 and 2003.
However, Danny denied the claims and went to court to fight them in October 2022.
The letters were not written to question the legitimacy of the judicial system or the validity of the jury’s ruling.

After the trial, the jurors were “hopelessly deadlocked,” causing a mistrial.
In April 2023, the retrial began.
Deputy District Attorney Reinhold Mueller said he “intends to introduce additional evidence at the retrial,” adding that the court could expect to see new witnesses take the stand.
A month later, Danny was found guilty by the jury on two of the three rape counts against him.
In September, he was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison.
MILA AND ASHTON’S LETTERS
At the time, Mila and her husband Ashton Kutcher wrote character references in support of Danny.

In her letter, Mila wrote, “Throughout our time together, Danny has proven to be an amazing friend, confidant, and, above all, an outstanding older brother figure to me.
His caring nature and ability to offer guidance have been instrumental in my growth both personally and professionally.”
In his letter, Ashton, who was also in That 70’s Show, wrote, “As a friend, Danny has been nothing but a positive influence on me.
“While I’m aware that the judgement has been cast as guilty on two counts of rape by force and the victims have a great desire for justice, I hope that my testament to his character is taken into consideration in sentencing.
“I do not believe he is an ongoing harm to society and having his daughter raised without a present father would a tertiary injustice in and of itself.”
THEIR APOLOGY
After their letters became public knowledge, the couple sent out an apology video on social media.
Ashton said, “We are aware of the pain that has been caused by the character letters that we wrote on behalf of Danny Masterson.”
His wife continued, “We support victims. We have done this historically through our work and will continue to do so in the future.”
The Guess Who actor explained that Danny’s family contacted them to write letters about the person “they knew for 25 years.”
Mila said, “The letters were not written to question the legitimacy of the judicial system or the validity of the jury’s ruling.
“Our heart goes out to every single person who has ever been a victim of sexual assault, sexual abuse, or rape.”
