While Kinta Sakata may not be popular, he does stick up for his friends. Despite his annoyance, Tatsu made him a fleshed out character. This is true for most characters in the series.
Dandadan’s brilliance lies in its layered characters
Keeping the overrated and overhyped allegations aside, the series excels in most ways. Especially through its layering of several characters in the series. Be it Kinta Sakata or Ken Takakura, Tatsu brings out their inner conflicts in the series. From loneliness to acknowledgment, the characters project familiarity. The flawed nature of these characters is what makes the series relatable.

Besides its unique take on occult and supernatural, the series offers a refreshing take on romance. The slow build of relationship and friendship is what hooks both readers and viewers. While Kinta is a hated character in the series, his complexity is lost in translation. Most viewers fail to understand the depth and personality of his character.

A possible reason for this could be his annoyance. While his character is annoying, it is important to understand his flaws. His need to be seen and acknowledged stems from his insecurities. Him looking down on other characters is off-putting for most viewers. However, the hate towards him might be unnecessary on viewers’ part.
Dandadan is available for streaming on Crunchyroll. The manga is available for reading on Viz Media.
