Brooklyn Nets tweaking their logos with trademark filings
New looks everywhere and NBA trademarks variations of longstanding Nets logos. When Sean Marks walked into a press availability with beat writers Monday morning, he was a walking advertisement for team gear featuring one of the Brooklyn Nets’ new logos.

The Nets, it turns out are altering more than just their roster this summer. Beneath the smoke and debris following the team’s blow up roughly two weeks ago, it snuck in a few changes to its current logos and filed trademarks for a pair of new ones.
There’s no swamp dragons nor major modifications present that couldn’t have taken an experienced graphic designer more than a few hours to conjure up. However, we feel it’s best we point them out so you don’t catch yourself starring at merch next year and mumbling, “am I crazy, or is that dash not where it used to be?”
In the days leading up to the July 4th holiday, Dennis Chung, an X user with a history of tracking and sharing new trademark filings by sports teams and other organizations, announced the NBA recently did so on behalf of the Nets, illustrating the replacement of “New York” on the outer ring’s lower half of their main logo with just “Nets.”
Looks like the @BrooklynNets are making tweaks to its logos. New trademarks filed by the NBA in Europe show the ball logo with "NETS" replacing "NEW YORK". pic.twitter.com/3byeQKbKzh— Dennis Chung (@DenChung) July 2, 2024
The new design also reflects some added thickness and the realignment of some lines on the basketball within that outer circle. There’s also some kerning adjustments on the word “Brooklyn” to make things more symmetrical with “Nets.” This new design is already present on the NBA store.
The lines on the ball were also adjusted, losing the variable line widths for more consistent lines. The letters and spacing between them on the circle were also tweaked, probably to balance "Brooklyn" with how much shorter "Nets" is than "New York". pic.twitter.com/uddecu1BHn— Dennis Chung (@DenChung) July 2, 2024
The NBA also filed trademarks for two entirely new designs, and although there’s no confirmation they’re for the Nets,
The NBA also filed to trademark this logo. I thought it was a W at first, but now I realize it's a stylized hoop and net, so likely a new secondary Nets logo. pic.twitter.com/TpjQhHeQfw— Dennis Chung (@DenChung) July 2, 2024
ProLine Mock Ups, a professional sports design services, instead believes this is for the Golden State Warriors.
New Warriors Alt logo. Pretty cool. Reminds us of the old Chris Webber "CW" hoop/net logo by Nike. pic.twitter.com/3r4HMnumYY— ProLine Mockups (@ProLineMockups) June 26, 2024
There’s some merit to that given the “W” shape, but the same cannot be said for this next one, the one Marks donned Monday...
More filings, this one for the word "Nets" styled to look like string attached to a hoop. pic.twitter.com/WwX0dGOZcB— Dennis Chung (@DenChung) July 4, 2024
Lastly, the team filed trademarks for its ball logo alone and the “Brooklyn” wordmark.
And now, just the ball symbol and "Brooklyn" on their own. pic.twitter.com/0pgAyYmdsb— Dennis Chung (@DenChung) July 4, 2024
According to SportsLogos.net, the aforementioned circle design will replace Brooklyn’s “shield” as its global logo for the upcoming season while the new “Nets” logo, meant to look like an actual net, will replace the *BKLYN* design as a secondary logo.
Although there’s no confirmation from the NBA or the Nets yet, the site also states that this change means Brooklyn will unveil new “statement” jerseys before the new season tips off. That means the Nets have played their last game in their all-black threads debuted in Kevin Durant’s final season with the team, adding to the list of things fans will have to part with this summer.
