Kyle Busch confirms he’ll be racing in Mexico in 2025
Kyle Busch is ready to race in Mexico when NASCAR travels to Mexico City for a Cup Series race in 2025. On X, the 39-year-old NASCAR driver wrote, “Excited to race for another win in Mexico in 2025!” He also shared photos of him winning a Nationwide Series race in Mexico.
Busch’s announcement comes after he was arrested at a Mexico airport in January 2023 after a staff member found a gun and ammunition in his luggage during a routine screening. He was sentenced to three and a half years in prison and was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine. Busch avoided prison time after a local judge allowed conditional punishment for him. He left the country paying an undisclosed bond.

After the incident, Busch went to social media to apologize. He said he has “a valid concealed carry permit from my local authority and adhere to all handgun laws, but I made a mistake by forgetting it was in my bag.
“Discovery of the handgun led to my detainment while the situation was resolved. I was not aware of Mexican law and had no intention of bringing a handgun into Mexico,” Busch wrote. “When it was discovered, I fully cooperated with the authorities, accepted the penalties, and returned to North Carolina. I apologize for my mistake and appreciate the respect shown by all parties as we resolved the matter. My family and I consider this issue closed.”
Kyle Busch competed the entire 2023 season after Mexico incident
Busch competed the entire 2023 season and finished 14th in the Cup Series standings. This year, the two-time Cup Series champion is battling for a playoff spot with one more race remaining in the regular season.
The 2025 Cup Series race in Mexico will be the first international points event in the Cup Series’ modern history. The race is scheduled for June 15 at Autódromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City and will stream live on Prime Video.
“This has been on our radar for a long time,” Ben Kennedy, NASCAR executive vice president, chief venue & racing innovation officer, said in a statement, per NASCAR.com. “We’ve been talking about the continued iteration of our schedule, right? You can go back a few years, went to new markets like Nashville and Austin, Texas. We went to the Coliseum for the Clash. … We went to our first street race in downtown Chicago, and this is going to be another first for us in a lot of ways. This is going to be certainly a monumental event for us, the first time we’re going south of the border.”
