Chelmsford Police Investigate After Gunman Shoots ATM at Local Ice Cream Stand
Mayhem hit a Chelmsford creamery early Friday when a gunman turned an ATM into target practice, police are investigating. According to a report by MassLive, the officers descended upon Sully’s Ice Cream Stand on Graniteville Road around 7:20 a.m. and discovered the bullet-riddled cash machine along with shell casings nearby. The Chelmsford Police determined the ATM had been shot nine times. Fortunately, the assailant failed to penetrate the money compartment.
The shooter was long gone by the time officers arrived, and there were no suspects or vehicles in sight. Residents recall a disturbance, with one report of loud bangs around 1 a.m., which police believe may have been the time of the shooting, Boston 25 News stated. Not only was the business closed at the time of the incident, but it also occurred less than a mile from four local schools, raising community concern.
Investigators are combing through evidence, having recovered eight shell casings at the scene, but still seek the public's assistance.
