Stephen Nedoroscik’s Heartwarming Action Wins Over Fans After Special Act Following DWTS Debut: “Huge Green Flag”
Once again, Stephen Nedoroscik, affectionately known as “Pommel-Horse Guy,” is winning hearts—but this time, it’s off the gymnastics stage! Fresh from dazzling audiences at the 2024 Olympics with his awesome pommel horse skills, he joined the cast of Dancing with the Stars. Well, there, Nedoroscik, 25, and his dancing partner Rylee Arnold made quite an impression on the September 17 episode, scoring 21 out of 30 for their energetic routine to Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now.”
At that time, dressed in a short-sleeved black-and-white striped shirt and black pants, Nedoroscik really brought his A-game last week. However, a sweet twist unfolded on September 22 related to that event when Arnold revealed the story behind the shirt in an Instagram video, explaining that it needed some alterations before the performance.
In the clip, Arnold explained, “Steve’s original jive shirt was a little long, so we had to cut the sleeves because I wanted it to be short-sleeved.” Nedoroscik, with his heart in the right place, asked the costume team if he could keep the fabric they trimmed. When Arnold asked who he was saving it for, he smiled and said, “For my grandma.” (She was there.) He added, “She’s a big fan of the show. It was kind of her dream that I was on it.”

Arnold couldn’t hold back her excitement, exclaiming, “Oh my god! I cried; that’s so cute!” Her post quickly gained traction, especially as fans were already buzzing about Nedoroscik’s impressive dance routine, plus his new sweet gesture added more to it.
Stephen Nedoroscik captured hearts with his nerdy gymnast-turned-superhero charm
Among the fans, many expressed their affection, with one saying, “The way he said ‘for my grandma’ was so pure hahaha love him!” But this wasn’t Nedoroscik’s first funny moment in the spotlight. He made quite an impression during the Paris competition. As a specialist for the USA men’s gymnastics team, Nedoroscik was there to compete in just one event: the pommel horse.
Just before his big moment in the team all-around final, cameras caught him, bespectacled and seemingly taking a quick nap on the sidelines, which was considered a funny moment. But when it was time to shine, he ditched the glasses and executed a near-perfect routine that clinched a bronze medal for Team USA—the sport’s first in 16 years.
Another fan quipped, “Somebody needs to tag the green flag guy in this, it’s too precious.” It’s clear why Stephen Nedoroscik has captured so many hearts—his adorable moments show exactly what many girls look for in a partner, making him the ultimate green flag. This charm is probably a big reason he’s been happily dating Tess for the past eight years. Their love story sounds like something out of a teen rom-com, starting back in the summer of 2016 when they both began their freshman years at Pennsylvania State University. With a shared love for gymnastics, their connection was practically instant.
They continued to grow closer throughout college, even when Tess decided to step back from gymnastics in 2020 while Stephen pursued his athletic dreams. Eventually, they settled down in Sarasota, Florida, to support his full-time training. The couple often shares adorable moments on social media, and Tess’s support was especially clear when she cheered him on at the Olympics. One more fan joked, “Well apparently Steve’s girlfriend thinks he’s a huge Green Flag. Now the world knows! .”
Another added, “I’m sure many of us are protecting Stephen at all costs! He’s not only an American treasure but an American sweetheart! This partnership is great!” One more chimed in, saying, “He needs to be a superhero character with brains and the best personality ever.” It’s no surprise that Stephen Nedoroscik has earned the nickname “Superman.”
The nickname fits perfectly. Off the mat, he wears those thick-rimmed glasses because of a condition that makes his eyes cross, giving him a bit of a “nerdy” vibe. But just like Clark Kent, who seems mild-mannered until it’s time to save the day, Nedoroscik transforms the second he steps up to the pommel horse. like he did in the Paris Olympics. The glasses come off, and suddenly, he’s a powerhouse, delivering jaw-dropping performances that leave everyone in awe. It’s that “nerd-to-hero” switch that’s earned him his superhero status in gymnastics. And with each performance and sweet gestures, he just keeps proving why the nickname suits him so well.
