Top-15 PG Dylan Mingo Hearing From Kentucky: ‘He Thinks I’d Be a Great Fit’
The June 15 contact period was a busy time for Kentucky basketball’s staff and 2026 recruits alike. Among those to receive interest is 2026 Top-15 guard Dylan Mingo.
The 6-foot-4, 170-pound point guard from Long Island Lutheran (Farmingdale, NY) told KSR+ that Kentucky assistant coach Alvin Brooks III called him shortly after the contact period began. It was his first time hearing from the new staff at UK.
“He said he loves my game and he loves watching me play,” Mingo said. “He thinks I’d be a great fit for Kentucky.”
Mingo is already familiar with Mark Pope‘s style of play from his time at BYU. It’s something that fits well with his style of play.
“I watched a video on how they played at BYU. They shoot a crazy amount of threes and actually win that way,” he said. “My three-pointer is pretty good right now, but I still have to work on it. It fits my game pretty well because I can shoot and I can make plays too. I can move off the ball also and screen for others.”
Mingo is also impressed with the Kentucky program as a whole. A big part of that is its winning culture.
“I think it’s a great organization and a great program,” he said. “They’ve won some national championships. It’s a great program.”
Brooks hasn’t talked with Mingo about a visit yet. Though, that’s expected to happen in due time.
“Soon in the future,’ Mingo said. “I want to see if it’s a good campus and if I’d like to live out there. I want to see the facilities. It’s probably a great facility. Besides that, I’d say how the team practices, how they play, and their physical style.”
His Wider Recruitment
Dylan Mingo has been busy since the contact period began. He’s already heard from the likes of Baylor, Ohio State, Villanova, Auburn, Alabama, Georgetown, Georgia, Penn State, Michigan, UCLA, Pitt, UNC, and Northern Illinois.
“I’m just blessed and thankful to have all these opportunities and all these calls, especially knowing the transfer portal is crazy right now,” Mingo said.
Mingo has yet to take any visits. Those likely won’t come until the fall.
“Their interest in me matters as much as my interest in going to the school,” Mingo said. “I want to go somewhere I want to live and a great fit for me on the court too that fits me.”
Dylan Mingo’s Game
Four-star guard Dylan Mingo of Long Island (NY) Lutheran is the nation’s No. 14 overall prospect, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media services. On3 ranks Mingo as the No. 17 player overall, the No. 3-ranked point guard, and the overall best player in New York.
”
“Being a bigger guard, it’s easier to see over defenses,” Mingo said. “I feel like I’m a great passer, and a great playmaker, and I can get to the basket, get my pull-up, and shoot. I can hit the floater. My defense as well. I love playing defense.”
Mingo said he’s shown off his ability to get downhill and create for his teammates this summer. Moving forward, he wants to be a more vocal leader and improve on the fluidity and consistency of his jump shot.
“I’m a great person to be at Kentucky,” he said. “I would love to go to Kentucky. Kentucky is a great program. I’m a good fit for Kentucky. I would love to go there. I’m a winner. I’m hopefully going to keep the winning culture.”
