Nathan Fillion Makes Surprising Comment About 'The Rookie'

Actor Nathan Fillion is sharing his thoughts about fans of his ABC series, The Rookie, who watch it on a non-conventional platform. During a July 26 interview with Variety at the 2025 San Diego Comic-Con, Fillion and the creator of The Rookie, Alexi Hawley, noted that the show is about to have its eighth season. Hawley said he believed the police procedural, which premiered in 2018, stayed popular among viewers due to clips from the show being uploaded on social media platforms like TikTok and YouTube Shorts. Fillion then said he doesn't take issue with fans getting into the show because of TikTok videos. "Whatever it takes. I'm starting to live the phenomenon of being recognized from TikTok clips. 'You're that guy from that police show TikTok clips.' Then I say, 'You know what? You should watch the show, it's like really long TikTok clips filmed horizontally,'" quipped Fillion during the interview. Fillion spoke about starring as Officer John Nolan in The Rookie during a March 2025 interview with Good Morning America."I'm having a lot of fun. It's been 31 years in the business, this is probably the best job I've ever had," said Fillion. He said that he and his castmates are sometimes mistaken for real police officers when they are in their characters' costumes. According to Fillion, the show's stars try to prevent the mix-up when out in public between shooting scenes. "There has been one or two times where we were mistaken for actual police officers. Where it's someone says, 'Yes Officer, thank you.' 'Who is he talking to right now?' But if you want to go to the coffee store down the street you need to take off your belt, take off the badge and put on a coat to try to make sure we're not actually mistaken for police officers," said the Superman actor.
