Ex-Rams QB Endorses Matthew Stafford’s Hall of Fame Bid Over Steelers’ Russell Wilson With a Brutal Dig
Dan Orlovsky, former NFL QB, continues to make headlines for his jibes at Russell Wilson. After listing the major pitfalls of the Pittsburgh Steelers QB, the ex-Rams QB has heated the debate by highlighting the Hall of Fame potential of Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford. Taking to his official X handle, the former QB-turned-NFL analyst expressed significant support for Stafford, creating a buzz on the internet.
Dan, who played as Lions’ QB Jared Goff’s backup for the Rams in 2017, made his shocking take in response to a quiz on X. Orlovsky, who retired on October 11, 2017, after playing 12 NFL seasons, shared the heated quiz with the caption, “Stafford and it isn’t close.”
The quiz, originally shared by Sleeper NFL, featured snaps of both QBs with the caption, “Who deserves to be in the Hall of Fame more–Russell Wilson or Matthew Stafford?” At this point in their careers, ESPN analysts have found Stafford significantly better.

The former No. 75 NFL pick by Wisconsin in the 2012 draft’s performance with the Broncos was not satisfactory enough in 2022. Unfortunately, it was the NFL’s worst-scoring offense. Additionally, he had to stay away from the 2023 season in a financially motivated move before his offseason release in 2023, where he signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Despite this, Russell Wilson, 35, has added notable accolades to his list, including winning a Super Bowl championship, becoming a nine-time Pro Bowler, and being named an All-Pro Second Teamer. And, who could forget his performances in 2015 and 2017? He left everyone in awe with his splendid performances, leading the league in passer rating and passing TDs in those respective years.
However, rumors suggest that the 35-year-old Wilson is competing with another QB castaway, former Chicago Bears signal caller Justin Fields, for the starting position in Pittsburgh.
Stafford, the No. 1 pick from Georgia in 2009, recorded 24 touchdowns and 3,965 yards along with a 63.5 quarterback rating last year. Moreover, he has been chosen for two Pro Bowls. He was also named the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year in 2011 while playing for the Detroit Lions, and he is on the Detroit Lions All-Time Team. At present, Stafford remains the starter for a fringe Super Bowl contender and could potentially earn more Pro Bowl appearances over the next few years. If the 6-foot-3, 220-pound QB wins another title and secures about two more Pro Bowl berths, is it enough to consider him Hall of Fame-worthy?
Orlovsky’s jibe at Wilson left spectators awestruck. Recently, Orlovsky made waves by listing the two things that could get Russell Wilson benched.
Orlovsky’s Critique of Wilson Sparks Debate
During an appearance on “NFL Live,” Orlovsky expressed his thoughts on Wilson’s success. Despite positive reports from Steelers OTAs and minicamps about Wilson’s adjustment to his new team, former QB-turned-NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky recently said on “NFL Live” that Wilson must avoid the two main pitfalls if he wants to keep his job from being taken by Justin Fields.
“He will be on the bench if he stresses this defense too much,” Orlovsky said. “I think there are two ways [QBs do that]. No. 1 — they’re so cautious with the football and they never want to do anything bad, and the defense sits there and goes, ‘Alright, if we give up 10 points, the game’s over because our quarterback can’t score more than that.’ Or they try to do so much, and [Wilson] can fall into this trap of trying to force so much and make so many big plays to prove that he’s still that guy that all of a sudden mistakes become an issue, and the defense is thinking, ‘If we give up 21 we lose because our offense is constantly turning the ball over,’” he remarked. Orlovsky’s remarks have stirred interest among football enthusiasts and analysts, leading to divergent viewpoints.
