Final days to get up to $120 from $40.6 million ‘chicken and tuna’ settlement and you don’t even need to show a receipt
SEVERAL chicken and tuna manufacturers have been named in a price-fixing lawsuit that resulted in a $40.6 million settlement.

Some of the brands are StarKist, Tyson, Perdue, Pilgrim’s Pride, and Sanderson Farms.
The suits claim the companies conspired together to raise and fix the price of chicken and canned tuna.
According to the lawsuits, these unlawful agreements violated state and federal laws meant to encourage healthy market competition.
Ferguson’s office collected $10.5 million through a settlement with Tyson and $35.5 million through settlements with 15 other broiler chicken producers.
Additionally, the office received $4.1 million through a tuna settlement with Chicken of the Sea.
In December, Feguson’s office sent out $40.6 million in settlement payments to 1.2 million Washington residents.
Single-person households received $50, while multi-person households were paid $120.
Consumers who believe they were eligible for a settlement payment but did not receive cash should submit a claim form by June 5.
Individuals must be Washington residents with a household income of 175% or less of the federal poverty level to qualify.
MONEY MAKER
Some Walmart shoppers could get up to $500 from another settlement regarding grocery prices.
A lawsuit alleged that the retailer tricked customers into paying more for “weighted goods.”
This includes things like bagged citrus fruits, meats, and seafood.
The lawsuit claimed that Walmart customers paid more for these items than the lowest displayed in-store price.
It further claimed that Walmart’s point-of-sale machines would artificially increase the weight of these items when they were marked as discounted.
Shoppers who purchased these items between October 19, 2018, to January 19, 2024, may be eligible for a payment from the settlement.
Customers with a receipt or other proof of purchase can get 2% of the amount they spent on the affected goods, with a payment cap of $500.
What's a class-action settlement?
Class action lawsuits offer groups of people, or 'classes,' a way to band together in court.
These suits are often brought by one or a few people who allege a company or other entity has wronged a large group of people.
When a suit becomes a class action, it extends to all “class members,” or people who may have similar complaints to those who filed the suit.
Companies often settle class actions – offering payment to class members who typically waive their right to pursue further legal action by accepting money.
These payout agreements frequently include statements by the defendant denying wrongdoing. Companies tend to settle class actions to avoid the costs of further litigation.
Pollution, discrimination, or false advertising are a few examples of what can land a class action on a company’s doorstep.
Claimants without a receipt could get $10 if they bought 50 products or less.
Those who say they bought between 51 and 75 items can receive $15.
Shoppers claiming to have bought between 76 and 100 products could get $20, and anyone who says they purchased over 100 items can get $25.
These will be cash payments, and the deadline to file a claim is June 5.
Another settlement is offering $500 payments from a $700 million pot.
Meanwhile, a new payment program is offering monthly checks worth $500.
