Scoop II: Latest on 2026 East Texas targets, Jamarion Carlton, and pair of 2027 priorities
Another dose of the Scoop includes the latest from top ETX targets DaQuives Beck and Tradarian Ball, plus 2026 Central Texas EDGE, and a pair of priority 2027 prospects in the Inside Scoop, Part II.
Check out the Inside Scoop, Part I from earlier.
DaQuives Beck, LB, Carthage (Texas) – 2026
The first impression is often the most important, and after seeing the Forty Acres for the first time last weekend, Beck is really starting to enjoy the recruiting process.
The 6-foot-2, 196-pound four-star competed at the Elite Camp on Saturday, something he wanted to do in front of the Texas coaching staff.
“My first experience was great, I loved it,” Beck told IT. “I felt like I built my connection a lot better with coach (Johnny) Nansen and the linebacker personnel. I love how he coaches, very aggressive. Reminds me of coach Preston (Carthage LB coach) from my high school. It was nice.”
After getting after it on the field, Nansen had a message for the #bEASTtexas product and early Texas offer.
“Really, just coaching me, telling me to keep working and getting better,” said Beck. “Telling me to work more on my techniques and stuff like that.”
Head coach Steve Sarkisian was paying attention to Beck as well and pulled him to the side to chat, one-on-one.
“(Sark) was telling me how the culture is nice here and that it’s just a really good place for me,” Beck said.
Beck has trips to Texas A&M and Texas Tech on schedule over the next few weeks.
Tradarian Ball, RB, Texarkana (Texas) Texas High – 2026
The 5-foot-10.5, 200-pound four-star is no stranger to the Forty Acres. He’s been on campus close to a dozen times, but this trip was a little different.
“What stood out this time was that I was able to showcase my skills and abilities around coach (Tashard) Choice and all the Texas coaching staff,” Ball told Inside Texas. “Really loved competing here.”
After notching a 10.48 100m this Spring, more schools reached out to the East Texas product. Michigan came through with an offer last week, joining Texas, Georgia, Oregon, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M. And a trip to Ann Arbor could be in the works.
“That offer means a lot, they are the defending champs,” said Ball. “They are a big powerhouse and it’ll be fun to get down there and chill with them.”
Ohio State, Tennessee, USC, and Texas A&M are the Horns’ stiffest competition, and he’s been getting closer to the Buckeyes and RB coach Carlos Locklyn.
Two prospects that stood out during Saturday’s Elie Camp to Ball were On3’s No. 2-rated QB Dia Bell and new 2027 QB offer Peyton Houston.
Ball is the No. 51 overall prospect, No. 4 running back, and the No. 5 player in the Lone Star State, according to the 2026 On3 Industry Ranking.
Jamarion Carlton, EDGE, Temple (Texas) – 2026
Carlton has been on quite the run on the recruiting trail recently and that continued Saturday with an offer from the Texas Longhorns. Steve Sarkisian himself gave Carlton the offer in person after the camp performance, something Carlton said the Texas head coach was keen on doing live instead of over the phone. Carlton mentioned he “almost teared up a little bit” at the “great opportunity.”
Defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski also interacted with Carlton during the camp, and Carlton felt like that was the start of building a great relationship.
He checked in at 6-foot-4, 238 pounds. Kwiatkowski didn’t give Carlton a specific role at EDGE that the Temple product would fill, but it’s not difficult to see him growing into a Jack. Carlton racked up 29 tackles with 4.0 TFL and 3.0 sacks as a sophomore for the Wildcats, also hauling in an interception.
Baylor, Arizona State, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Nebraska, and Ohio State were some of the schools Carlton mentioned as schools standing out, but the Longhorns were described as “top five, maybe higher.” He’ll visit Ohio State, Nebraska, and Baylor this summer.
Carlton is ranked as the No. 68 overall prospect, the No. 6 EDGE, and the No. 8 player in Texas in the 2026 On3 Industry Ranking. On3 ranks Carlton as the No. 36 overall prospect, the No. 5 EDGE, and the No. 3 player in Texas.
Amari Vickerson, DL, Cypress (Texas) Cy-Ranch – 2027
The son of former NFL defensive lineman and current Michigan State defensive line assistant Kevin Vickerson, Amari was excited to earn an offer on Saturday during Texas’ Elite Camp. He thought Saturday’s camp was very competitive and eye-opening, especially in facing 2025, 2026, and 2027 prospects.
Kenny Baker issued Vickerson an offer, one of very few sent out in his class. It’s his second SEC offer along with one from Missouri. But the offer from Texas was one that stood out, especially since Vickerson is from just down US 290 in Cypress.
Vickerson will take a few more camp visits and likely rack up more offers. He’ll see Houston, Texas Tech, Missouri, Tennessee, and several others. Between 6-foot-3, 260-pound size and strong pedigree, Vickerson is a prospect to remember in the coming years.
Landen Williams-Callis, RB, Richmond (Texas) Randle – 2027
The Longhorns offered Williams-Callis this spring and are already a team he holds in high regard. Saturday’s camp visit, where Williams-Callis was able to work directly with Choice, only helped Texas’ efforts.
“I loved how he coached me today,” Williams-Callis said.
Williams-Callis also noted how Texas has produced running backs for the NFL draft and he mentioned that he wants to be a part of something like that.
After the camp, there was a pool party that allowed Williams-Callis the time to interact more with both Choice and Sarkisian, something that stood out to the dynamite 2027 back.
Williams-Callis rushed for 1944 yards and 23 touchdowns as a freshman averaging 9.4 yards per carry. He also hauled in 10 receptions for 173 yards and four touchdowns for Randle during the 2023 season. He has loftier goals for 2024, wanting to rush for over 3,000 yards.
Texas, Ohio State, and Texas A&M are near the top of his list at this juncture.
