Luke Humphries suggests drastic format change for Premier League Darts after losing to Luke Littler – with RELEGATION
LUKE HUMPHRIES has suggested a radical format change for Premier League Darts.
The reigning world champion, 29, competed in the eight-player competition for the first time this year.

Premier League Darts sees eight top players compete for points over 16 nights, with the top four eventually qualifying for the play-offs at the 02 Arena.
Humphries came second to Littler in this season’s table, before losing out to the teenage wonderkid 11-7 in the grand final.
Having now completed the campaign, Humphries has suggested some changes to the format – including relegation.
Chatting to SportsBoom, he said: “It’s my first year so I can’t sit here and say I don’t like it because I can’t really have that opinion yet.
“I actually had a good suggestion that maybe they could do a league format where everyone plays each other once for the ten players.
“So, nine games we play each other once, then two get relegated and then go to the league mini-tournament format back to what we’re doing now.
“It could work like the FedEx Cup, you’d have the first phase with ten players, and then start again with the different format for phase two, with the person who won topped the table starting on eight points, and so on, if you finish top you see the rewards.”
Humphries was then keen to point out that fans should be made a priority when discussing potential changes to the event.

He continued: “I’m happy to play in what the fans want, to be honest. Whatever the fans want in the Premier League.
“Whether it’s one night, one game a night or it’s the league format you won’t see me moaning about because it’s all about the fans.”
Humphries’ defeat to Littler last week saw “the Nuke” avenge his loss in the World Championship final earlier this year.
Despite having lost out this time, Humphries believes that his rivalry with Littler can only be good for the sport.
He said: “My main goal was to make the top four and then make the final, and you can’t ask much more of yourself than that.
“It would have been lovely to win it, but I lost to a fantastic performance from Luke.
“I think Luke deserved to be the Premier League champion. It’s 1-1 between us in major finals now and it’s an exciting rivalry to look forward to in the future.”
Littler calls out TikToker Beavo
By Tony Robertson
LUKE LITTLER has revealed who he would want to fight in a boxing match.
Littler, 17, has taken the world by storm after exploding on to the darts scene, which has seen him win the 2024 Premier League Darts.
Appearing on The MMA Hour podcast, Littler was asked whether he would want to do a boxing match.
Littler said: “I’d love to. Why not. I tried it like once or twice when I was younger.”
Littler was then asked who he would want to fight, with names such as Michael van Gerwen and Michael Smith being waved off by the teen.
Pressed on the topic, Littler then said: “It’s like a proper person, it’s not a darts player. Do I like him? Nah. Beavo.”
Explaining who Beavo was, Littler added: “He just swallows potatoes whole on TikTok. He had like a Sunday roast whole as well.
“I don’t like him. He actually messaged me on TikTok saying do you want to get a kebab together, I just ignored him.”
Both Humphries and Littler have been in New York this week for the US Darts Masters.
It was a particularly magical trip for Humphries, who got engaged to partner Kayley.
He popped the question in front of the picturesque New York skyline at the Edge.
Proudly sharing four snaps of the occasion to Instagram, Humphries wrote: “A moment that I’ve been waiting to do for some time now.
“Just wanted to wait until that perfect moment! Today was that time.
“Up the edge in New York all by ourselves, I popped the question, proud to say Kayley said yes!”
Littler, 17, was among the first people to wish his rival well, commenting: “Congrats mate.”
