Coach’s take on Miami three-star commit TK Muex: “He’s got a very high upside and is a kid that can play on Sundays”
Throughout his youth football career, Jacksonville (Fla.) Duncan U. Fletcher interior offensive lineman and Miami commit Takaylen “TK” Muex was a running back.
That was until his freshman year, when his head coach at Fletcher High School, Ciatrick Fason, asked Muex to make the move to the offensive line. Since then the 6-foot-5, 315-pounder has blossomed into a national recruit.
“He used to be a running back when he was little,” Fason told CaneSport. “Once he got to high school, his size started to pick up, so his running ability is pretty dang good for a big boy. He’s been a three-year starter for me, and ever since he was a freshman I threw him into that fire.”
Despite being a relatively unknown prospect until recent weeks, the 3-star Fason was confident it was only a matter of time before programs like Miami came chasing after Muex.
“I think the way he moves and bends is what stands out the most,” Fason explained. “Me being a former NFL player, I know what those guys at the college and professional levels look for. If you can bend, don’t worry about the stars too much; they will come. And then it started to pick up when teams started seeing him in person.”
As a three-year starter heading into his senior year, Fason has seen Muex’s game take major strides in a handful of different areas. Where it has developed the most, in his opinion, is simply his determination and desire to become the best version of himself.
“His want to,” Fason explained. “When you’re a freshman everybody thinks they have time, but the time goes by fast, and you can be a bit lazy at first. The kid picked it up, man, and I told him he could go as far as he wanted to go, but that’s going to depend on how hard he worked. He works his but off, and he doesn’t take any days or any plays off. He wants to be the best, and I think that’s where he’s progressed the most.”
Now committed to Miami, Fason believes Muex still has that chip on his shoulder and will continue to work to prove to people that he deserves to be where he is.
“I think they’re getting a good, hungry kid who still has a lot to prove,” Fason said. “He’s got a very high upside and is a kid that can play on Sundays. Off the field, they’re getting a kid who is a great kid who gets in no trouble and is a role model for his little sister. They’re getting a kid who is hungry and motivated and wants to make his (family) proud.”
