Davidson gave up six hits in six innings, striking out three and walking one. Bulls catcher Kenny Piper, who doubled and scored on Jake Mangum’s fielder’s choice in the third inning, homered in the fifth.
Danny Coulombe, who is on a rehabilitation assignment from the Baltimore Orioles, joined Brooks Kriske and Bruce Zimmermann in pitching a hitless inning apiece to complete the victory.
In the ninth, the Tides’ J.D. Davis scored the final run on a wild pitch.
The Tides (66-78, 30-39 in the International League’s second half) won the series 4-2 and took the season series over Durham 11-10. They will complete the year at Harbor Park with a six-game series against the Nashville Sounds, starting at 6:35 Tuesday night.
