Keke Palmer Shares How Motherhood Impacted the Way She Views Herself in a Vulnerable New Interview

Keke Palmer is in a new era — and it’s all thanks to her 2-year-old son Leodis “Leo.” The One of Them Days star reflected on how motherhood changed the way she viewed herself in a vulnerable new interview that will make you misty-eyed.
The proud mom looked stunning on the red carpet at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party on Sunday, in a white gown with sheer panels that showed off her stomach, chest, and back. But the most stunning part was Palmer’s smile, as she was positively beaming.
Palmer commented on her vibrant, happy aura. “I attribute it to self-love, which has been ignited even more so by my son,” she told PEOPLE.

“You know, when you have a kid, you’re always trying to figure out what you can do better, how you can be better for the child, and loving yourself to me is No. 1,” Palmer continued.
Good for her! Many women talk about the very real and challenging struggles of loving yourself postpartum, especially in light of how your body changes. But Palmer is spreading awareness about the good parts of motherhood, too, and how Leo inspires her to look at herself more kindly.
In the interview, the Bosses star continued, “I feel like I’ve been pouring so much more into myself so that I can be the best mom to him. And it has made my life even more fulfilling, to be honest with you.”
This echoes what Palmer has said in the past about motherhood changing her perspective. The Password host told E! News in August that becoming a mom changed her “in ways I didn’t expect.” “The funny thing about it, the child is the most responsible you can be,” Palmer said. “Having a child is going to bring a certain level of responsibility that nothing else will.”
Part of that responsibility was to herself. “I need to be the best for him and to be the best for him, I gotta be the best me. I’m not gonna be able to be the best me for him if I’m not focusing on the things that make me the best I can be.”

Leo, who Palmer shares with ex Darius Jackson, turned 2 at the end of February and celebrated with a special party that included an appearance by preschool star Blippi.
“My life can and will never be the same,” Palmer wrote in a birthday tribute to her son. “You have made me who I will forever be, a MOTHA. Leodis from the moment you were in my stomach I knew you were a strong little boy. I could just feel it!”
“Even though you are no longer in my stomach you are in fact my greatest strength,” she continued. “Idk if it’s telepathy or what but you have taught me that I can do anything and as long as you are watching I promise I won’t let you down. Strong baby, strong mommy!!!”
