2024 Jersey Shore Beach Guide: Beach Badges, Town Rules
NEW JERSEY — The countdown to Memorial Day weekend — and summer days spent at the beach — is on for those who love their time on the beach at the Jersey Shore. So how much will it cost to get your beach badges this year? Here is Patch's annual guide to beach fees and more. Most towns are scheduled to open their beaches Memorial Day weekend and operate weekends only until mid-June and many are still hiring staff for the summer season, including lifeguards. Filling openings has been difficult in the last few summers, so it's always wise to double-check with the town where you're headed to make sure there are no issues on a particular day.Towns that had been using the Viply app for beach badge sales are unable to do so for 2024 as that company is no longer operating. Check with the town for updated information.Just a reminder that most towns and beaches have rules about coolers, playing ball, music, tents and other items for your beach spread. A few have made updates in 2024. In Brick Township and in North Wildwood, tents have been banned on the beaches for this summer due to space issues because of beach erosion. A number of towns have instituted curfews for teens because of problems the last few summers. North Wildwood had a curfew in the works as of May 2; Seaside Heights put one in place in the summer of 2023, and Toms River has put a temporary one in place each of the last three summers. A reminder, too, that while recreational marijuana is legal for adult consumption, it is not legal to smoke it on the beaches in New Jersey. Smoking of any kind was banned on the beaches in 2018. Here is the list of towns, beaches and beach fees for each for 2024, as of May 3:GATEWAY RECREATION AREA SANDY HOOKThe beaches are accessible for passive recreation, such as walking and running, but no lifeguards will be on duty until Memorial Day weekend. The season pass is valid May 25-Sept. 2, 2023. Active military members and U.S. military veterans who own an America the Beautiful annual pass will receive free beach parking at Gateway. Active duty military photo identification will be required at all times to verify ownership of the annual pass, and the vehicle hang tag issued with the pass must be displayed at all times at Sandy Hook. For oversized vehicles (more than 20 feet), parking is $50 per day or $200 per season. Hours of collection are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Season passes for beach parking can be purchased online or at the Sandy Hook entrance gate.
