Newsstand: Notre Dame QB commit Deuce Knight claims state championships in two track events
Notre Dame football’s 2025 class quarterback commit is a state champion … in track and field. On Saturday, Lucedale (Miss.) George County’s Deuce Knight won the Mississippi Class 6A title in the high jump and long jump.
The 6-foot-4½, 200-pound Knight is a repeat champion in the long jump event.
Knight registered a 23-foot, 2.25-inch mark in this year’s long jump, which was two inches shorter than last year’s leap. He still claimed gold in the event for the second straight season.
Meanwhile, he recorded a 6-foot, 8-inch mark in the high jump, which tied for 12th in the nation among high school juniors.
Of course, Knight also stands out on the football field.
According to the On3 Industry Ranking — a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services — he is the No. 59 overall player, No. 7 quarterback nationally and No. 3 prospect in Mississippi in the 2025 class.
On Sept. 18, Knight committed to the Irish over Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Alabama. Since then, he has visited Notre Dame six times, most recently for the Blue-Gold Game on April 20. He will return to campus from June 14-16 for his official visit.
