No. 2 edge Isaiah Gibson on upcoming Auburn official visit: ‘I just want to get out there’
Isaiah Gibson, a 4-star edge from Warner Robins (Ga.), is committed to USC but will take several official visits. Auburn will be one of the schools getting a visit.
“(June) 10th through the 12th,” Gibson said. “I have actually only been to Auburn twice.”
Gibson tells On3’s Keith Niebuhr he remains committed to USC, but will continue to keep his options open.
“I’m locked in with USC,” Gibson said. “As of right now, it’s home. I don’t plan on decommitting any time at all. I don’t plan on decommitting, but I’m just leaving my options open.”
Gibson is the No. 24 overall player in the class of 2025, the No. 2 edge, and the No. 4 player in the state of Georgia according to On3.
‘The one I have to learn the most about’
For Gibson, who recently took a full weekend trip to Auburn in March, he just wants to experience the town and surrounding areas of Auburn again.
“With Auburn, I feel like I just want to get out there,” Gibson said. “I know what Auburn has to offer inside of football. I just want to see the lifestyle and all–I didn’t know Auburn was that big honestly. I thought it was just a small town. I guess it is, but it is a football town.”
Of the many schools he’s still paying attention to, Auburn is the one he probably knows the least about as a whole.
“Honestly, that’s the one I have to learn the most about, but I love all the coaches,” Gibson said. “Coach Freeze, I feel like he has a huge impact on his players, especially the defensive side of the ball.”
Gibson is tight with Josh Aldridge.
“Coach (Josh) Aldridge, he just says come there and be developed,” Gibson said. “I didn’t know because I was young, but he was here when an older player was here that went to Liberty. I didn’t know him, but he already knew me from when I was younger.”
Gibson says he noticed the class Auburn recently brought in and sees Auburn as a program on the time.
“Yeah I did, I just feel like it was an opportunity,” Gibson said. “Auburn, obviously they’re in a rebuilding stage, I would say for sure, though, they’re doing really good.”
What is the most important thing for Gibson in ultimately deciding on a school?
“I would say development for sure, life outside of football because every SEC school is going to be top-notch,” Gibson said. “Life outside of football, I don’t want to make everything just about football.”
