It's best to check the products you have against that list.“The health and safety of our customers is always a top priority,” a Walmart spokesperson told NBC News in a statement. “We have removed this product from our impacted stores and are working with the supplier to investigate.”ALDI issued a press release about the recall writing, "ALDI puts the safety and integrity of the products it sells first. If customers have products affected by this recall, they are advised to discard it immediately or return it to their local store for a full refund."Why Would There Be Arsenic In Apple Juice?According to Refresco, the apple juice was recalled because it contains inorganic arsenic levels "slightly above" the FDA's action level, which is 10 parts per billion (ppb). It's not clear yet why the levels were elevated. In June 2023, the FDA updated its guidelines for what they consider acceptable levels. In its report, the FDA found the amount of inorganic arsenic in apple juice was around 3-5 ppb. But some levels were above 10 ppb. The report encouraged manufacturers to reduce levels. The FDA says arsenic is sometimes found in food products because of the environment in which it is grown. That includes soil, air, or water. The arsenic can occur naturally or be present due to pesticides or pollution. There is no way to remove arsenic entirely from the environment or the food supply, so the FDA looks at the toxicity and the potential level measured in the food and in the amount consumed.Health Concerns Related to Arsenic In FoodArsenic is toxic to people of all ages regardless of their health status. However the potential effects depend on how much arsenic is actually in the food, the age of the person consuming it, and the frequency of exposure to it.Inorganic arsenic, which is what is involved in this recall, is more dangerous to humans than organic arsenic. For children, because their brains are still developing, arsenic exposure can be associated with learning disabilities, behavior issues, and a lower IQ. Infants and young children can be more at risk of potential harm because they are smaller and have rapid metabolism and growth. Those are some of the longer-term effects, but there are some more immediate signs of arsenic poisoning that could show up within a half hour of high levels of exposure.Abdominal painNausea and vomitingDiarrheaCoughChest painShortness of breathSore throatIf you are concerned about your child potentially being exposed to arsenic from this apple juice recall or any other products, contact your child's health care provider.
