Five things: Value of Kansas State offensive line transfer Colin Truett
.) The ninth Division I football transfer addition for Kansas State is UT-Chattanooga offensive line transfer Colin Truett. He picked the Wildcats after a visit last week. K-State added a few transfers late. In addition to Truett, it was also UConn quarterback Ta’Quan Roberson, New Mexico linebacker Alec Marenco, Rice cornerback Jordan Dunbar and Colorado running back Dylan Edwards. Four others joined the Wildcats in the Winter – Ball State safety Jordan Riley, Austin Peay defensive end Travis Bates, North Dakota offensive lineman Easton Kilty and Penn State wideout Dante Cephas.
.) Kansas State going the FCS route has bred success before, namely with Reggie Stubblefield from Prairie View A&M, Cincere Mason via Kennesaw State and Josh Hayes after his tenure at North Dakota State. The Wildcats will hope for similar luck with Truett, Kilty and Bates. Not only did K-State inquire about Truett but South Carolina as well.
.) A need at offensive line existed for Kansas State. They were not satisfied with just Kilty. They took a swing for offensive tackle transfers Andrew Chamblee and Ethan Boyd as well. Though Chamblee visited Manhattan, he chose SMU. Boyd decided on Colorado before making a stop at K-State.
.) Truett isn’t someone with a lot of versatility. Any contributions from him will be exclusive to the interior of the offensive line. He’s not going to be sliding out to tackle in a pinch or anything like that. That will be saved for John Pastore, Carver Willis and Kilty. Truett was a four-year starter at UT-Chattanooga and is in his seventh year of college ball thanks to the Covid-19 year and other redshirts. He’s a two-time all-conference pick, too.
.) Due to it being his seventh year, he’s out of options. This is the last go-around for Truett. That is why he chose to take a swing with Kansas State at the Power Four level. But he’s not guaranteed a starting job. In fact, that may be an uphill climb even though he’ll have the opportunity to compete for it when fall camp arrives. The Wildcats just have others primed and ready to go in Hadley Panzer, Taylor Poitier, Andrew Leingang and Sam Hecht. But having five game-ready linemen available for the interior and another three at tackle is a very good spot, and the Wildcats could even grow that list with development during fall camp.
