Ovens made by Electrolux Home Products Inc. were recalled on Thursday according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
“This recall announcement involves Frigidaire, Frigidaire Gallery, Frigidaire Professional, and Kenmore Elite smooth-top electric ranges,” a statement by the agency read.
“The smooth-top electric ranges have rear panel rotary knobs and digital displays. They were sold in the following colors: white, bisque, black and stainless steel.”
The Frigidaire models included FEFBZ90GC, FEFLMC55GC, FEFLZ87GC, and GLEF396AB.
Also, four Kenmore Elite Models; 790.990121, 790.990131, 790.990141, and 790.990191.
The brand name, model, and serial number can be found on the bottom drawer frame when it’s opened.
WHAT’S THE ISSUE?
The oven reportedly can turn on spontaneously without being switched on and can fail to turn off.
It was also reported that the interior of the oven would heat to a different temperature than the one selected posing a massive fire risk.
Over 200,000 appliances were sold at Sears and other independent stores from June 2001 through August 2009.
However, it is unclear if the same stoves were resold and recalled again without the issue being resolved.
Since the initial 2009 recall, Electrolux has received at least 212 reports of the heat range being erratic.
At least 14 of those reports include fires and 8 include burns and smoke inhalation.
“Consumers with impacted ranges should contact Electrolux for steps to avoid a burn injury, including not leaving anything on the range when it is not in use,” the agency warns.
“If the range is repairable, a free inspection and repair will be scheduled.
