USC commit Hylton Stubbs says Miami official visit had “very big” impact: “It was awesome, amazing, I loved everything about it”
Although Mandarin (Fla.) four-star safety Hylton Stubbs may be committed to USC, the Miami Hurricanes have remained a contender in his recruitment. This past weekend, the Canes hosted the top-75 defensive back for an official visit.
It’s safe to say he was wowed.
“It was awesome, amazing, I loved everything about it,” said Stubbs, who was hosted by former teammate Deryc Plazz.

During his time on campus, Stubbs, who is the No. 56 overall prospect in the 2025 class according to the On3 Industry Ranking, spoke with Miami staff members, including head coach Mario Cristobal, defensive coordinator Lance Guidry, and defensive back coach Chevis Jackson.
“I just love the staff, got to build a better relationship, way better relationship over this visit,” Stubbs said. “I love the staff, what they’re doing. I’m loving everything for sure. I love coach Cristobal, and the staff are amazing people to be around.”
Miami’s message to Stubbs?
“Just that they want me, want me bad,” Stubbs said. “They are trying to do everything they can to get it done.”
Stubbs also said a highlight was spending time around the players.
“I’m loved my interactions with the players, chopped it up with them well,” he said.
Ahead of the visit, Stubbs and his family wanted Miami’s plan for him, and the Canes showed them just that.
While Stubbs’ recent official visits to USC, Florida, and Miami will play a role in his final decision, so will each team’s performance in the regular season.
“That will be pretty big,” he said. “It will be something with the season (that weighs in).”
So just how big of an impact did this visit have on where things stand?
“Very big, really big,” Stubbs said.
He adds that “I loved all my OVs, but you see big things, see things you want to see on your OVs.”
Well, Stubbs said that Miami coaches are “respectful, for sure” of his current commitment status.
But the Canes gave him a lot to think over.
“They’re still coming,” Stubbs said. “They’re coming.”
CaneSport’s take
Miami has put itself up in the picture for Stubbs regardless of his current commitment status, and we don’t expect the Canes to let up at all in the months ahead. This is a recruitment to continue to monitor for sure. Stubbs also said that Plazz and other players told him that “How they treat me on the OV is how it’s going to be every day. They say they never changes, and I love that. That was every players’ pitch – the staff that you see right now is the guys you are going to get every day.”
