Texas vs. Michigan Odds: Spread, Moneyline, Total
A matchup between top 10 teams headlines the Week 2 college football slate, with No. 10 Michigan hosting No. 3 Texas this Saturday at 12 p.m. ET at Michigan Stadium and Fox Sports on the broadcast.
Michigan opened as a smaller underdog, and the point spread has increased after Week 1 to the point that Texas is slightly more than a touchdown favorite at many college football sportsbooks. The total is 43.5 points, and Michigan is getting +245 odds on the moneyline. Michigan is the defending NCAA champion and holds the second-longest home winning streak in FBS at 23 games. The Wolverines have won 31 of their last 32 games overall but have a number of unproven players, particularly on offense.
Texas returns 40 players from a team that nearly made the title game to face Michigan last season. The Longhorns proved that they can win in a tough environment by beating Alabama in Tuscaloosa last September. Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers is a third-year starter with great weapons at his disposal, and he’s among the favorites in Heisman Trophy odds. Texas currently has the fourth-shortest odds to win the national championship.

Texas is a growing favorite at Michigan in clash of top 10 teams
How Texas could win and cover the spread
The Longhorns’ defense could overwhelm Michigan’s rebuilding offense. The Wolverines lost workhorse back Blake Corum and quarterback J.J. McCarthy to the NFL, and their offense wasn’t particularly impressive in a 30-10 win over Fresno State in Week 1. If Texas sells out to stop the run and finds success up front, can Michigan quarterback Davis Warren burn the Longhorns’ secondary?
The Texas offense will be hard to stop, even for a Michigan front seven that remains elite. Michigan’s secondary lost a few talented pieces, and Texas receivers Isaiah Bond, Matthew Golden, and DeAndre Moore Jr. form one of the best trios in the nation.
How Michigan could cover the spread
Michigan’s approach under Jim Harbaugh was to consistently pound the rock at a slow pace and lean on an elite defense to wear down opponents. Not much is likely to change in terms of approach under Sherron Moore, who served as head coach in four games last season while Harbaugh was suspended.
Between Mason Graham, Kenneth Grant, and Cameron Brandt, Michigan has one of the toughest defensive lines in FBS. And offensively, Donovan Edwards and Kalel Mullings may be able to combine their efforts to fill the void left by Corum’s departure. Atmosphere should play a factor, with 107,601 fans lining up to pack The Big House and keep Michigan’s home winning streak alive. Even if they can’t pull out the win, the Wolverines could show they still have championship mettle by playing the Longhorns close.
