Newsstand: Swimming legend Michael Phelps will be ESPN College GameDay guest picker for Michigan vs. Texas
Tweets Of The Day
ESPN’s popular pregame show, ‘College GameDay,’ will be in Ann Arbor for Michigan vs. Texas this weekend. The network announced that 23-time Gold Medal-winning Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps will be the guest picker of games during the show.
“I am coming to tell you I will be on College GameDay for the very first time,” Phelps said in a brief video announcing his guest spot. “I’m super pumped to be with the crew. Can’t wait to pick some games, have some fun, have some laughs, but most importantly: Cheer on Big Blue. Come on y’all, let’s get this Big House loud and rowdy. We welcome the Texas Longhorns on Saturday. I got one thing to say: Lets go blue!”
Phelps attended classes at Michigan but did not compete athletically for the Wolverines.
The show runs from 9 a.m. to noon ET, hosted by Rece Davis, Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee, Nick Saban, Kirk Herbstreit and other ESPN personalities.
Michigan vs. Texas will kick off at noon ET on FOX. Big Noon Kickoff — FOX’s pregame show — will also be live from Ann Arbor beginning at 9 a.m.
The last time GameDay was at Michigan was before last season’s 30-24 win over Ohio State. That marked the third-straight victory over the Buckeyes and cemented the Wolverines’ spot in the Big Ten championship game against Iowa. U-M won, 26-0, and headed to the College Football Playoff, where it won its 12th ever national title.
Michigan has hosted GameDay 14 times, the third-most among all schools behind only Ohio State (23) and Alabama (18). U-M has been a part of games with GameDay in attendance 39 times, the fifth-most among all schools behind Ohio State (59), Alabama (58), Florida (42) and Oklahoma (40).
Michigan has a 21-18 record when GameDay is in attendance.
