Unknown Candy Sickens 11 Students At Tampa School: Police
TAMPA, FL — Authorities are investigating after nearly a dozen students at New Springs Charter School in Tampa became sick after eating candy that may have been laced with THC, police said. According to Tampa police, authorities were called to the school around 1:30 p.m. Thursday after staff found a clear cylindrical container with no label or markings that contained two pieces of what resembled Nerds candies. According to police, similar candy is legally sold as Delta-9 THC products in Florida.Police said 11 children between the ages of 9 and 11 consumed the candy and experienced symptoms of dizziness, nausea, lethargy, and numbness in their legs and arms.Three children were taken to the hospital as a precaution, police said. The others were released to their parents. No serious injuries were reported, police said. Police said they believe one of the students brought the candy with them to school. It's unknown who brought the candy to the school and how it ended up in the children's possession, authorities said. The incident remains under investigation.
