Sebastian Stan says he carried over Donald Trump mannerisms from “The Apprentice” to “Thunderbolts”
"I would do something, a thing or two, and be like, 'F---! This is still living somewhere.'"
'Thunderbolts*' trailer assembles Marvel's antiheroes
See the likes of Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Alexei Shostakov (David Harbour), and more beat each other up before teaming up in Marvel's 'Thunderbolts*' trailer.
Sebastian Stan may have accidentally sprinkled a little bit of covfefe into his performance in theThunderbolts*. The actor revealed in a recent British GQ interview that he went directly from playing a young Donald Trump in Ali Abbasi's The Apprentice to reprising his role as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier within the MCU and, as a result, there may be some minor cross-contamination between the two characters. “I went off to Marvel after [The Apprentice],” Stan explained. “And we were doing scenes, and I would do something, a thing or two, and be like, ‘F---! This is still living somewhere.’”Want more movie news? Sign up for Entertainment Weekly's free newsletter to get the latest trailers, celebrity interviews, film reviews, and more.

Thunderbolts*, directed by Jake Schreier, sees Stan’s Bucky Barnes collide with a collection of morally grey Marvel characters like Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (David Harbour), John Walker (Wyatt Russell), Antonia Dreykov (Olga Kurylenko), and the ever-mysterious Bob (Lewis Pullman). In order to step back into the role, Stan worked hard to shed some of the weight that he'd put on to play Trump, only to find out that Thunderbolts had been temporarily shelved due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes last summer. “I’m f---in’ 41,” he said. “I just worked pretty hard to get in shape here!”Stan previously told Entertainment Weekly that he initially didn’t see himself as the right person to play Trump onscreen. "It's funny, I felt similarly about a few things I've worked on," he said. "My initial reaction is, 'Wow, how the hell am I going to do this?'"He added at the time that even his friends and family had urged him not to take on the role of the polarizing politician. "I had people tell me I don't look like him. I had people tell me that it's not safe for me to do it,” Stan said. “I had people say that I shouldn't try to alienate half the country."While speaking with GQ, Stan also voiced his approval of Robert Downey Jr.’s casting as Doctor Doom in the forthcoming Avengers films, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. “I hope I’m in a scene with him,” he said. “Is there any other guy that could pull that off? I don’t know, probably not. After Tropic Thunder, is there anything that guy can’t do?”The Apprentice opens in theaters on Oct. 11, while Thunderbolts* will be released on May 2, 2025.
