Texas Longhorns Saturday morning OL recruiting intel
Earlier in the week we mentioned the real number at wide receiver could be four depending on how things shake out. Now we’ll mention the number at offensive line could be six, at least that’s what a couple recruits have been told.
Where they’re getting that room is worth exploring. Texas will very likely lose three due to the NFL or graduation: Kelvin Banks, Jake Majors, and Hayden Conner. There’s also the possibility a player who is unexpected to leave at this time could have an NFL caliber season: DJ Campbell and/or Cameron Williams. The coaches would know whether or not that appears likely at this time.
Then of course there’s the portal. Inside Texas was surprised a member of the 2023 class didn’t leave this past spring but that’s a testament to development that nobody did. Still, in this day and age Texas it’s clear, Texas is going to keep loading up the roster and letting the cream rise to the top. Remember, the goal isn’t to keep every player, it’s to keep the best players.

If they do take six O-linemen, again, per a couple of OL targets, what does that mean for this class? Before Texas had a commitment at the position IT predicted: Michael Fasusi, Jordan Coleman, Devin Coleman, Jackson Christian, and John Mills would end up in the class.
Mills is currently on his official visit and we think Kyle Flood has the chance to truly separate from his contemporaries at Washington and Florida. Mills likes the outdoors, well so does half the team. People assume because UT is located in a large city it doesn’t have the great outdoors to offer. It’s Texas, it doesn’t take long to find a river, lake, or deer blind. If you play at Texas you have access to better wildlife than the average 18-22 year old.
Fasusi is getting a spirited push from OU (OVing right now), A&M, and Missouri. Long ago we mentioned the most likely outcome for the Big 3 OT’s would be Fausi to Texas, Ty Haywood to OU, and Lamont Rogers to A&M. That looks increasingly likely. A&M has Rogers No. 1 on their board; Texas has Fasusi No. 1; OU has Haywood No. 1.
Our Charlie Williams has done a terrific job keeping us in the loop on the Rogers recruitment and his intel is part of this post.
Rogers is on his Texas OV right now (unfortunately his mother couldn’t make it due to a family illness). If you compare Fasusi’s level of contact with Rogers’ there’s no comparison who the key OT target is at Texas and Rogers understands that. Recruits talk. Barring a major surprise this weekend the Rogers recruitment is a mere formality.
Massive Iowa O-lineman Nick Brooks is on campus as well. If Texas takes six then this one gets a little more intriguing because who else could No. 6 be? Brooks likes Georgia but Flood might be due to upset the Bulldogs.
If they land Fasusi and Mills with the current three commits the class is should be considered a massive success. To me it would be a blend of the 2022 and 2023 classes between upside and quality developmental pieces.
A sixth take could really put it over the top.
