Gun-toting shooter kills four including cop after storming Manhattan skyscraper with assault rifle in terrifying rampage

A SHOOTER has killed four after storming a skyscraper in a horror rampage right in the heart of New York City.
The gunman attacked the Midtown high-rise home to corporate giants Blackstone and the NFL before turning the gun on himself.

Tamura’s gun was recovered by cops covered in blood
Officials named Shane Tamura of Las Vegas as the shooter

One NYPD cop and three civilians have tragically been killed in the shooting while a fifth person was wounded in the sick attack just a 20-minute walk from Times Square.
Workers desperately ran for their lives in suits while those trapped in Blackstone’s office built a barricade across the door with furniture.
The shooter was named as Shane Tamura, 27, by NYC Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch.
A motive is not yet known, but cops found a note saying he had a degenerative health condition he blamed on American football.
Tamura attacked 345 Park Avenue on East 52nd Street between Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue at about 6.30pm (11.30pm BST) on Monday.
CCTV caught him exiting a double-parked BMW with an M4 rifle and walking across a public plaza into the 44-story building.
The crazed gunman – clad in a bulletproof vest and with a silencer on his weapon – then sprayed the lobby with gunfire and killed the off-duty officer working a corporate security detail.
He also hit and killed a woman who tried to take cover behind a pillar.
The man then made his way to the elevator bank and shot a guard at a security desk and shot another man in the lobby who is in a critical but stable condition, the commissioner said.
In a chilling moment of mercy, Tamura then spared the life of a woman who came face-to-face with him as she exited an elevator.

The shooter got into the elevator after the woman had been set to go up to the 33rd floor, according to CNN.
Tamura took the elevator to the 33rd floor which were occupied by offices of the company that owned the building, Rudin Management.
He then “begins to walk the floor, firing as he travelled” and kills one more man.
Tamura then shot himself in the chest, Tisch said, with his body left splayed on the ground in a walkway inside the office.
The rifle was found next to him covered in blood.

Hundreds were left running for their lives as they desperately tried to flee the horror.
Emergency responders desperately tried to save those shot and a bloodied victim was seen being carried along a street while others tended to a person lying on the ground outside.
One witness eating dinner on the plaza said she could hear the shooting and saw people flee.
She said: “It felt like it was a quick two shots and then it was rapid fire.”
“Windows shattered and a man ran from the building saying, Help, help. I’m shot.”
Jessica Chen told ABC News she was watching a presentation with dozens of other people on the second floor when she heard the shooting on the first floor.

She and others ran into a conference room and barricaded tables against the door.
Chen said: “We were honestly really, really scared.”
A note was found on Tamura which blamed football for an apparent health battle with the neurodegenerative disease chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), the New York Post reports.
According to CNN, he wrote in it: “Terry Long football gave me CTE and it caused me to drink a gallon of antifreeze.
“You can’t go against the NFL, they’ll squash you.
“Study my brain please I’m sorry Tell Rick I’m sorry for everything.”
The NFL occupies floors five to eight in the building.
Tamura had played football at high school in California where he was said to be a standout player.
Cops are now investigating the motive behind Tamura’s shooting
Tamura was from Las Vegas
Former classmate Caleb Clarke told NBC that Tamura hadn’t lived up to the promise he had shown.
He said about his former classmate: “The only thing I can really think of is there was a point where it looked like the sky was the limit, and then it wasn’t anymore.”
Cops responded with counter-terrorism units, a bomb squad, and a heavy weapons team.
The NYPD named the off-duty officer killed as Didarul Islam and paid tribute to the man who “represented the very best of our department”.
The department said: “He was protecting New Yorkers from danger when his life was tragically cut short today.
“We join in prayer during this time of incomprehensible pain. We will forever honour his legacy.”

Tisch said of Islam – an immigrant from Bangladesh – that he “died as he lived. A hero.”
“He was doing the job that we asked him to do. He put himself in harms way. He made the ultimate sacrifice.”
Islam leaves behind two young boys and a pregnant wife.
Cops found a rifle case, a revolver, magazines, ammunition and medication in his car after searching the motor.

Timeline of NYC shooting

A gunman stormed 345 Park Avenue in Midtown, Manhattan, on Monday night killing four before turning the gun on himself.
Cops are now investigating why the suspect Shane Tamura carried out the brutal attack and have released a preliminary timeline and are tracing back through his movements.
July 26 – Tamura drives through Colorado in his black BMW
July 27 – Tamura drives through Nebraska and Iowa. He also doesn’t show up for work as a security guard at a Las Vegas casino
July 28, 6.28pm – Reports of the shooting are first made to NYPD. Tamura had moments earlier double parked his car and walked across a plaza into 345 Park Avenue

7.52pm – NYC Police Commissioner Tisch posted on X: “the scene has been contained and the lone shooter has been neutralized.”

A preliminary investigation showed that Tamura had not shown up for work on Sunday.
He had driven east in a journey to the shooting through Colorado on July 26 and then Nebraska and Iowa on July 27.
The car was in Columbia, New Jersey, as recently as 4.24pm on Monday before driving into NYC.
A photo obtained by the New York Post appeared to show Tamura – who went to high school in California – had a concealed firearms permit.
Tisch said: “His motives are still under investigation. We are working to understand why he targeted this particular location.”

Initial checks on the FBI’s internal system found no information about Tamura, the New York Times reported.
The skyscraper at 345 Park Avenue houses a number of financial firms, including Blackstone, Deutsche Bank, KPMG and the NFL headquarters and the Consulate General of Ireland.
Rudin is one of the largest privately owned real estate companies in New York City.
Tisch said there were no indications so far that Tamura had prior connections to the real estate industry or to the city.
The shooting happened in the same area of the city as where the United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson was killed.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said an NFL employee was seriously hurt in the violence.
Goodell said: “As has been widely reported, a gunman committed an unspeakable act of violence in our building at 345 Park Avenue.
“One of our employees was seriously injured in this attack. He is currently in the hospital and in stable condition.”
