Delhi, Get Ready For A 'Theme-Based Walk Festival' This October; Details Inside

New Delhi: The Delhi tourism department is planning to launch a three-month-long theme-based walk festival following the success of its haunted and heritage walks. The walks will begin in October to promote the city's tourism, culture, and rich heritage. This time, the department will introduce over 100 new walks, including visits to old police stations, old movie halls, Old Delhi, Kumhar colonies known for pottery, gardens, and food joints. According to officials, the heritage walks have been popular among both international and local tourists.Officials added, "The department expects this three-month-long festival to be a hit. The monsoon will end by October, and the weather will be pleasant… the festival season is also beginning… So, we expect this initiative to attract tourists," as quoted by Indian Express. The department had launched the first-of-its-kind haunted walk initiative ahead of the G20 Summit last year. The Indian Express report mentioned that the first such walk was at Malcha Mahal, a 14th-century Tughlaq Era hunting lodge, but it was halted a few months ago after running into legal troubles.Officials further said that as part of the three-month festival, the department is planning to include more places in the list of haunted walks. One official said, "We have added Feroz Shah Kotla and Tughlaqabad Fort (to this initiative). There are also plans to add Bhuli Bhatiyari. We have instructed officials to identify more spooky places, as people are interested in this," as quoted by Indian Express. In addition to walks at Hauz Khas Village, Shahjahanabad (Old Delhi), Mehrauli Archaeological Park, Qutub Complex (Illuminated), and Dilli Haat, these locations will also be part of the festival. Moreover, tourism department officials mentioned that most of these walks will be conducted on weekends. Each walk will accommodate a group of 25 people. The prices will be similar to previous walks: Rs 1,000 per person, which includes a guide and a kit. The kit will contain a torch, stick, jute bag, cap, badge, band, water bottle, juice, seasonal fruit, and a muffin. Officials also said that with the festival season starting from the first week of October, the department will organize Diwali events, dandiya nights, concerts, and other free-for-all events.
