Her Dad’s Angry That She Exposed His Affair To Her Mom, Resulting In Their Divorce
Three days ago, this 18-year-old girl was using the bathroom in her home when she noticed her dad’s phone was out on the counter.
Her dad works for a major airline as a pilot, and she has always stopped to think about how his profession has an astounding rate of divorces and cheaters.
That fact, coupled with her pondering how unhappy her parents were in their marriage, made her pick up her dad’s phone to see if he had any unsavory messages in there.
As she took a peek, she saw that her dad was chatting with a 45-year-old woman named Mary.
“I thought it was strange that he asked her to “keep him company in Dallas” (he was leaving for a week-long training that day) and that there were no messages before that,” she explained.
“I went into his deleted messages and saw that there were 51 deleted messages between him and Mary. After recovering them, I only had to read a few before the truth of it all hit me. My heart was beating so hard, and my hands were shaking.”
“I knew I had to get evidence, but my time was short. I could hear him moving around in the hall. I took photos of a few of the messages, wrote her phone number in my notes app, and then marked the messages unread and left the bathroom.”
She instantly phoned up her mom, who was working, to ask that she meet her for lunch. Her mind was racing as she made this request.
She thought about if she should confront or dad or issue him an ultimatum before meeting up with her mom.

She wondered if her mom knew about her dad’s affair. It even crossed her mind to call Mary herself and call her out for the cheating.
She actually typed Mary’s number into her phone, fully intending to call her, but then decided against that plan.
“I had so many options in that moment, but I felt that is was only right to let my mom decide for herself how to handle this since she is the one most affected here,” she said.
“My mom and I had barely been seated when I blurted out the truth. Safe to say she was shocked and felt betrayed. She spent the rest of lunch stalking Mary. Turns out it has been a 3-year-long affair. Mary is a flight attendant at the same company and lives where we grew up, and she is married and has a few children.”
“There were lots of tears, especially when Mom confirmed that she would definitely be getting a divorce. I knew that would probably happen, but I couldn’t help but feel I was the cause of a 17-year-long marriage being ruined.”
She has a little brother who is only 14, and she knows the divorce will hurt him the worst. As for her, she’s able to head off to college soon and can leave her home life behind, but her brother has to stay another three years at home before he’s college-bound.
She felt quite a bit down as she realized if she had kept quiet, her brother could have gone on to have a normal life.
In the days since she exposed her dad’s affair, she only felt worse for hurting her brother’s life as he knows it.
When her mom spoke to her dad about the affair, it came out that she was the one who found the message exchanged with Mary.
Her dad has been texting her that she should have said something to him first before going straight to her mom, and if she had done that, he would have had a chance to explain himself.
Her dad also said to her that she should take care with choosing sides, though clearly, she’s siding with her mom.
“My dad and I have always been really close and had a great relationship,” she added. “He is a terrible husband but a great dad.”
“And I feel like I betrayed him and ruined our family by being too nosy. Should I have kept quiet?”
