Mariyon Dye wows with his size at the On3 Elite Series, talks top schools and future official visits
NASHVILLE – The On3 Elite Series wrapped up on Wednesday evening, as over 40 of the nation’s top high school football prospects made their way to the Motor City to gain information that will help them prepare for all the rigors of the next level.
Among the best of the best, there wasn’t a player at the event prettier on the hoof than Elkhart (Ind.) High defensive end Mariyon Dye.
“Mariyon Dye may have been the first off the bus’ prospect on hand,” On3 Director of Scouting Charles Power wrote. “(Mariyon) measured in at 6-foot-4.75, 268 pounds.
“Dye had the longest arms on hand at 35.5 inches, along with an elite 7-foot-1 wingspan to go with a 10-inch hand. A jumbo athlete with elite length to go with plus athleticism, Dye is one of the more physically-gifted prospects in the 2025 cycle.”
The On3 Industry tabs Dye as the nation’s No. 22 edge rusher and No. 166 prospect overall. We at On3 were already much higher prior to the event slotting him at No. 5 at his position and No. 40 overall. We also put him No 1 in the Hoosier State.
Five schools are in the mix
The contenders for Dye’s signature include Florida State, Georgia, Ohio State, Purdue and Tennessee.
“I feel like a lot can change,” Dye said. “I’m still kind of early in my recruitment. On my official I hope to see where I want to go after my officials.”
Dye will take these visits and aims to announce a college decision on August 3.
Local Big Ten program leads off
First up regarding officials is Purdue this weekend.
“Hometown,” Dye said of what stands out. He’s been to West Lafayette several times. “Always been my dream to play for a hometown team and be the face of Indiana.”
Dye loves the trajectory of the program under second-year head coach Ryan Walters and his staff.
“When I’m there I just feel like I’m at home and I feel the love from the coaches,” Dye said.
Georgia is one to watch
Georgia will host Dye the weekend of June 7. Chidera Uzo-Diribe and Pryce Tracy (who hails from the same area as Dye) have been leading the charge for the Bulldogs. He has been to Athens twice.
“Really they’ve been showing me mad love since day one,” Dye said. “My relationship with the coaching staff and Coach (Kirby) Smart is great.”
Dye feels he could blossom as a player at UGA.
“How they use their d-linemen and how they said they’d use me and it’s D-Line U for sure.”
Dye has always loved the Buckeyes
Ohio State is set for a June 14 official visit.
“That’s always been my dream school since I was a kid with Larry Johnson there as the d-line coach,” Dye said. “I was at their practice and I loved how hard they practiced for sure.”
FSU aims to make a move
Florida State is one of the newer programs to the mix for Dye and they visited his school a couple times during the recent evaluation period.
“I like how they used Jared Verse,” Dye said. “I’ve never been down there. The coaches came to seem and I want to return the favor.”
Vols are another to keep an eye on
Tennessee gets the final official visit the weekend of June 21. Levorn Harbin and Rodney Gardner are the coaches Dye feels close with.
“The relationship piece,” Dye said of what stands out. “I’ve been down there three or four times. That really feels like home. My relationship with the coaches and how they say they’ll use me.”
Dye loves the vibe he gets when in Knoxville.
“When I’m there it feels like a winning program,” Dye said. “The way the coaches carry themselves and the way the players carry themselves.”
