Jaylen Brown on being scrutinized: You get to a point where it happens for so long it becomes normal

“I think it’s a fair question. I think it’s fair to say that it does affect you being embraced versus being scrutinized,” said Brown, who was voted MVP for the Celtics’ Eastern Conference finals win over Indiana. “You get to a point where it’s like you get scrutinized enough for a large part of your career, it becomes normal,” Brown continued. “Then it just rolls off you. For me, at least, I can say — I don’t know if Jayson feels the same way — it’s kind of been that (way) my whole career in a sense.”Source: New York Times

Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown have been circling an NBA championship so long you forget they’re only in their mid-20s.
To put that into a local perspective, they’re both younger than Jalen Brunson, Julius Randle and Josh Hart. They’re at roughly the same ages as Steph Curry and – 10:12 AM

Irving said that seeing Tatum and Brown develop into one of the league’s elite star duos has made him “nothing short of proud,” adding that he tried to share as much advice and wisdom with the tandem as he could during their time as teammates. He said he has continued to have brotherly relationships with Tatum and Brown in the years since, but they have not communicated since the Celtics and Mavericks clinched their bids to the Finals. -via ESPN / June 3, 2024
But with that loneliness came a focus on the team. Porziņģis formed an instant bond with his neighbor Brown, who lives in the same building. “I think my experience helped us get on track right away to have a pretty smooth start,” Porziņģis said. “You saw early in the year, me and JB, we clicked right away (on the court) on a lot of those like back doors and then two-man games.” Porziņģis said he studied Brown’s and Tatum’s games and spent time working with them to learn their spots on the floor. He soon understood where to set their screens, how to roll and then where to find them once the defense had to respond. -via New York Times / June 3, 2024
Derrick Jones has started 83 of Dallas’ 99 games this season, including all 17 playoff games. In his previous seven seasons with Phoenix, Miami, Portland and Chicago he started 103 regular-season and no playoff games. He’ll not only start Game 1 of the Finals but will be tasked with guarding either Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown or most likely both at various times. “I mean, they’re good offensive players,” Jones said. “Like I said before, with all the [previous] series, I’ve just got to keep them from their spots and try to limit them from to the shots that they like to take.” -via Dallas Morning News / June 3, 2024
