World Series champion who has earned $8.2m in career wakes up unemployed after spending 10 years with Nationals
THE Washington Nationals have cut ties with outfielder Victor Robles.
Robles was given multiple shots to establish himself with the Nationals, but could never make a lasting impression.

Robles was designated for assignment on Monday to make room for Lane Thomas who is returning from the injured list.
“It was definitely emotional,” Manager Dave Martinez said.
“Those are always the toughest days when you have to lose a player, especially a guy like Vic who I’ve known for many years.
“All I could tell him is that I wish him the best.”
The 27-year-old outfielder was signed by the Nationals in 2013 as a part of their international signing class.
He quickly evolved into a top MLB prospect and made his debut with the team in 2017.
Robles won the World Series with the Nationals in 2019, as well as finishing sixth in Rookie of the Year voting.
In his best season, Robles was a .255 hitter with 17 home runs and 65 RBI to his name.
However, this year he only hit .120 with no home runs and two RBI.
Thomas, the player that is replacing Robles on the Nationals roster, shared how hard it is to see Robles go.
“I’ve gotten really close with Vic over the last couple of years,” Thomas said.
“That’s just an unfortunate part of what we do. There’s just so many spots.
“Hopefully I’ll see him across the field here soon if someone takes a chance.”
Patrick Corbin, who was one of the Nationals’ top pitcher in 2019, shared how good Robles was and hoped he can return to form.
“He hit 17 homers, hit for average, was an all-around player,” Corbin said.
Home runs and boomsticks
MLB is back in London for a third time this summer when the Philadelphia Phillies take on the New York Mets.
The London Stadium will transform from a football pitch to a baseball field for the June 8 and 9 spectacle.
Fans attending the games can feast on some extravagant ballpark menu items such as boomstick nachos (pictured) and a two-foot boomstick hotdog.
The New York Yankees won both games in 2019 against their rivals the Boston Red Sox.
And the Chicago Cubs split their series with the St Louis Cardinals when the teams faced off in 2023.
“To have a guy like that at the bottom of your lineup with a veteran team like we had, he played a huge part on that team.
“Played really good center field for us. The injuries, I think, may have played a part in some of the things where he wasn’t able to get to where everyone thought he was going to be.
“But he still has time — he’s young. And maybe just a change of scenery can help him out.”
Robles in only 27, and has plenty of time to figure things out and revitalize his career.
