Kevin Costner was brought to tears by a 10-minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival for his new film after a tough few years.
The Yellowstone actor, 69, wrote, directed, and starred in Horizon: An American Saga, which premiered at the acclaimed film festival yesterday.
Also starring Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Abbey Lee, Ella Hunt, and Jamie Campbell Bower, the film is a two-part epic that follows a family during the expansion of the American West.
Ahead of its wide release on June 28, early reactions have been very positive, with a rousing standing ovation moving Costner, whose personal life has been embroiled in drama over the past few years, to dab away a tear (per People).
Following the overwhelming reception, Costner delivered an emotional speech thanking those who had attended the premiere.
‘I’m sorry you had to clap that long for me to understand that I should speak,’ he joked.

‘Such good people.
‘Such a good moment, not just for me, but for the actors who came with me, for people who believed in me, who continued to work.
‘It’s a funny business, and I’m so glad I found it. There’s no place like here.’
He added that his experience at Cannes had been made all the more special by how people had reacted to his passion project, especially that of his family with five of his seven children attending the event with him.
‘I’ll never forget this,’ The Bodyguard star continued. ‘Neither with my children. They all look so beautiful, dressed up so nice, the women, the men. They’re so handsome.’
Annie, 40, Cayden, 17, Grace, 13, Lily, 37, and Hayes, 15 – who stars in Horizon with his father – all stood by his side on the red carpet ahead of the premiere.

He went on to earnestly thank the audience for their attendance and urged them to share the experience with their loved ones as his impassioned speech came to a close.
‘I made this. It’s not mine anymore. It’s yours. I knew that the minute this was over and that’s what it should be. I think movies aren’t about their opening weekends. They’re about their life and about how many times you’re willing to share it.
‘And I hope that you do share this movie with your sweethearts, with your children. I feel so lucky. I feel so blessed — and there’s three more,” he said, as the audience cheered once more.
‘There was no reason that this was gonna happen, and it’s just another miracle in my life,” he added, becoming choked up. “Thank you so much for giving me your precious time. I hope that this time was worth it for you. Thank you.’
It comes after a troubled few years for the star following his bitter divorce from ex-wife Christine Baumgartner.

Christine filed for divorce last May, bringing her marriage to the Waterworld actor to an end after 18 years.
Since then, they had been hashing out the details of their split after she demanded more than $129,000 in child support and accused Costner of trying to make their family homeless.
In September, it was announced the couple had settled their divorce.
Costner recently opened up about his shocking exit from Yellowstone, claiming he ‘took a beating’ over backstage drama.
It was claimed that the Hollywood icon had left the series amid claims of tensions on set, with writer Taylor Sheridan.
Horizon: An American Saga is released on June 28.
